I belive that people like Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton are always the first to make something out of nothing when it comes to blacks in America. I am hispanic (not white) so a minority, those two are the first to make it Black vs White. I don't recall those two in a national spotlight when negative stories of them came out. It's not a Black and White thing Mr. Jessie (I am a very wealthy african american off of these types of issues) Jackson.

People like Jackson and Sharpton wait to have something that they can blow up and gain publicity for themselves and further the myth that they speak for black people. They have been caught in so many corrupt schemes exploiting blacks that they really have little voice in the black community. Events like this are meat to them and they can manipulate the stupid media to play this out in the press. Imus is a milder version of shock jock and he offends everyone (like South Park) but has always been a stand up guy for minorities. No matter, it was a chance to exploit so Al and Jesse burned him down. Things like this are so silly. What is a redneck? Isn't that a racial stereotype? Why is there no outcry when Sharpton calls various politicians crackers and rednecks? Because its a double standard and if you allowed yourself to be worked up by this you are a fool. There is no greater racial stereotype to be found in the media than a white male in America. Every time something like this happens people are told they are supposed to be offended (black and white) and yet it is often so silly (especially when its meant to be humor/Def Comedy Jam?) that it makes people care less and not more.

is it blown out of proportion when Bush wants to send Hispanics back or make it harder for them to come to America? is it blown out of proportion that whites along with other nationalities are constantly killed in Iraq?...the point is when it comes to your own race will you feel that its being blown out of proportion? The fact is it's wrong..How do you stop racism if you allow certain things to be just a joke. What about the white girls that are on the Rutgers team are they nappy headed hos also or just hos? what did Imus comment have to team with the whole team and how they play basketball.its true African Americans make black jokes but the bottom line is one race shouldn't make jokes about other race. even if it is just a joke others may not see it that way.Jackson and Sharpton are just there to speak up if no one else will. But what if the comment was made towards you, your race or your family? would you say it's just a joke and be ok with it...just so someone else would feel it's ok to make such a comment in the future.

I am amazed that people can get so riled up about names or words. You can hear worse than that in any rap song. With so many more important things in the world, can't people just say it was a stupid joke gone wrong and leave it at that? If you don't like Imus or think he's a bigot, don't listen to his show. Let the marketplace decide his punishment. Good Christians that they are, isn't it odd that the Rev's Sharpton & Jackson seem never to have heard of forgiveness? And, of course, "Hymietown" Jackson shouldn't be casting stones anyway.

Yes it has. If it had been a black comedian or celebrity, it would have been like; "OMG how funny can a man be, OMG I cant breathe, my side is splitting!!!!" "Here he is the funniest man on Earth, Mr. Black American, You all know him as the man who coined the phrase, "nappy headed ho!" I'm kind of tired of that being the case. A lot of black comedians get big laughs because they can say things of this nature without controversy. But a white comedian has to rely on a completely different arsenal. It goes for everything nowadays, like there are not enough Black NBA owners. What about there isnt enough White NBA players? They should pass a rule that requires each team have 4 white players and 1 of those has to be a starter. Get a grip, Black America, no one is out to "get ya". Quit acting like babies. What about overweight people or unattractive people or short people or old people. Swallow it and understand that everyone is not like a Black person trying to take advantage of the system.

Oh now its getting out of hand because a beloved white American male its getting tarnish with a racist reputation. Whites feel so up on their toes now because a major(White) figure head put his foot in his mouth for the last time. This would have all been different if a major black figure head (trying to find an example but their isn't much to choose from) Call a predominately White volleyball team a bunch White trailor trash hoes and compare them to Britney Spears or some other wash up White Celeb. I'll bet the argument would've been much different from the other side. The Hypocrisy is alarming I mean where did common decency go not to mention that he didn't even know these girls, and to blame it on Hip Hop when the majority of the records are bought by suburban White kids and funded by White own record companies.....trying to find an easy way out or someone else to blame again. Bet on Whitey he can never do wrong he's so perfect just like White Jesus. lol!

The signs at the airport say "Don't joke about terrorism."

You can't say what you please and write it off as a joke.

Racial discrimination is against the law.
Its not a joke.
Its right in the US Constitution.
Imus's station/network etc. is licensed by the FCC which is itself governed by Constitutional law.
What if you said on TV: " Men don't rape black children. Black children ask for rough sex and and really enjoy it." and then explained that you were joking?
You believe everybody should laugh it off?

I think Imus should be removed from the air by the FCC for inciting hatred and racism....even if in joke form. As a licensed media (free press) broadcast journalist he has both extra privileges and ethical responsibilities.

The 1st Amendment and freedom of press are far from legitimizing such hateful racist expression, jokes or not. There are many many forms of censorship...and Imus and his ilk should be the object of legal restraint.

BTW I never heard Sharpton or Jackson joke about White people in such a demeaning way or spew race hatred..ever.

I was just looking at the story wondering how it got so blown up. I can see a few people not appreciating the joke, and an apology, but jeez. I've heard much worse things said with no blow up.

I am a black American, and yes I was pissed about what was said joke or not(NOT)! But It's not just that, Just as stated about rap music, it is sick and degrading as well, but we all know that for anyone to use this as a joke or whatever it is degrading to all it is said about! I don't buy nor listen to rap, and that is why, it's sick just as this so called joke!
