It does seem like they sleep about 22 out of the 24 hours. I remember people joking that my daughter barely opened her eyes in that first week. But he should open them a little bit everyday. If he seriously doesn't open them at all, you should maybe call a nurse and ask her opinion whether or not you should bring him in to be checked. I'm sure he's just doing the normal itty bitty baby thing.

If he is not opening his eyes at all (as opposed to just sleeping alot), then -
- check his eyes are not "glued" shut with conjuntivities. If so, then gently wash his eys with cotton balls and saline.
- if this is not the case, then seek medical attention immediately. Absolutely not normal.

Normal ,however they do open their eyes a little. If you don't see that call your baby's dr.

Newborns are very sleepy. He should've had an eye exam at the hospital, they would've told you if there was a concern.

trying turning off or turning down the lights, those new little eyes are sensitive congrats too by the way
