Well. First off.
'Illegally ratified'--it's more like presumably or supposedly
A book was written: The Law That Never Was by Bill Benson
It showed that there were several states that never voted in favor of the amendment.
Secondly, the whole reason this is an issue
You are really asking the fundamental question:
"Am I a person who is liable for this tax?"
Tring to get an official and concise response to this question seem to be near impossible.
People generally will direct you to Title 26
or quote the code: "...to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived..."
People tend to take that as proof. Obviously one needs to distinguish that 'incomes' and 'source' are not the same thing. We need to know what the 'source' is.
That is where it gets tricky. If you have ever looked at the tax code you can imagine why most people don't even want to to try to decipher it.
If you are truly interested in knowing more I urge you to look into it. What harm can it do to educate yourself?
More and more people are becoming disenchanted with the way taxes are handled. It's hard to imagine the american people 'not' abolishing the IRS sometime in the near future.
We just can't seem to come to consensus on what a solution would be. There are many proposed.
Until the day some decision is made...things will carry on as usual...which is basically confusion and discontent.
What good purpose could the current system serve so well that we are forced to keep it? Threatening people with jail time and fines or by stealing their properties? That's just wrong. Try to justify it all you want. It's still wrong!

Hello, mets! The constitutionality of the federal income tax has never been left in doubt by the courts since the 16th amendment was ratified.
Was it illegally ratified? The IRS has a response ready and waiting. :-) The source below is an IRS document titled, "The Truth About Frivolous Tax Arguments." The link provided goes straight to the 16th amendment discussion.

If you don't file a tax return, you won't be able to get credit. Be prepared to pay cash for your car, your home, etc. When the IRS catches up to you, however, you won't need a car nor will you have to worry about paying the rent. The federal government will provide room and board to you.
You better not keep any money in a bank or invested in stocks (either directly or in a brokerage account) because those companies report everything you make to the IRS. Start filling jars with your spare cash. Just don't forget that inflation will erode your savings.

What you have stumbled upon is a little known and little used tax protester argument that has mostly fallen out of favor with most tax protesters these days.
A few people have used this argument in a court of law and guess what......they lost!!! There is no validity to this argument or any of the arguments that tax protesters make.
File your return and pay your taxes. You will be much happier in the long run.

WRONG! You have to file....or else face criminal prosecution! :(
FYI: The Sixteenth Amendment was ratified on February 3, 1913, and it states "The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration."

This is what my father was saying. He was saying we didn't have to pay taxes, just the companies. It is true that they don't arrest you unless you don't file. How many celebrities have we known to not pay but don't go to jail?
By the way, Judy, I'm sure you knew plenty of things before you saw it on the internet. You're probably trying to cover up that all of those things are true with your "dripping" sarcasm. You IRS agents, sheez.

THINGS I DIDN'T KNOW UNTIL I READ THEM ON THE INTERNET:
Nobody ever really landed on the moon - it was a giant hoax. What you saw on TV was filmed in Utah.
Elvis is still alive.
It is unconstitutional for the government to tax your wages (income tax).
Excuse me now....I just won 2 million pounds in the online UK lottery when my email was randomly selected, and I have to go answer the email.....

You have to pay taxes so the government can afford to teach people how to spell words like amendment.

If you don't file they will toss your butt in jail. Now if you don't pay, that's another story. They can't throw you in jail for not paying, just for not filing and for lying.
