Toxoplasmosis is the infection you can get from the stool in the cat litter ( cat poop.) It is a parasite and it is common, harmless to most grown ups but dangerous to an unborn baby...You did the right thing by washing hands...fumes do not cause toxoplasmosis, the parasite in the poop does...you can keep your cat, but have someone else change the cat box and always wash your hands after petting kitty. Don't worry, tell your doctor...I can't remember if there is a test for toxoplasmosis or not, but do make sure you tell the doc you have a cat.

The toxoplasmosis that you are concerned about contracting is RARELY contracted through contact with a cat box. In order to get it from there, you would have to actually ingest the fecal material (poop). Gross, i know...but there ARE actually people who will clean the box then make a sandwich! Blech! It is far more likely that you might be at risk for the toxoplasmosis by exposure to vegetables that were grown with manure for fertilizer and not properly washed. Just be sure to carefully scrub all the veggies that you eat and on carrots, radishes, turnips and potatoes (since they are root veggies and exposed directly to the fertilizer) you would want to remove the outer skin with a veggie peeler. Don't worry...no sense getting stressed about it. Best wishes...and congrats!!!

Don't worry! Worrying is the worst thing you can do when pregnant. My husband did it while I was pregnant, but complained constantly. There's a bacteria in the "feces" that can cause problems if the baby comes in contact with it. If you have to do it, I guess just make sure to wash your hands. I think you'll be plenty safe with gloves and a mask. Good luck and congratulations!!

calm down. you did the right thing. i was the only one to change the litter box because i am a single mom. i used a mask, disposable gloves and washed my hands. change or scoop every day so that bacteria will not grow. you and your baby will be fine just be very clean about things and don't let anyone tell you to get rid of your kitty. my son and our cat are best friends.

Don't worry about it. To be truthful if you have had this cat for awhile more than likely you've been exposed to toxoplasmosis
which means you've already been infected and your immune system isn't susceptible to it anymore. You can have testing done but, it's really not worth while since more than likely you have already been infected prior to your pregnancy. Just in case you didn't infact become infected you shouldn't clean cat box anymore during pregnancy.

i wouldn't worry about it. I changed the litter box before I knew I was pregnant. As long as you washed your hands thouroughly and don't do it again.

I think it's only an issue if you consume the cat litter, orally or breathe it in in a massive amount. I don't think touching it once will harm your little one. But, of course, check with your doctor to be on the safe side. CONGRATULATIONS!

you may desire to progressively introduce new muddle to a cat. pass back to the Petco muddle. in the adventure that your cat starts off utilising the Petco muddle then upload a million cup of world's perfect and combine it around. If he accepts this then upload yet another cup 2 days later. etc.
