My personal opinion is to stick with your birth name and continue going by Birdy. Think about it - Birdy doesn't look quite serious on a resume and you'll have to live the rest of your life with the legal name of Birdy. However, if you're in a creative type line of profession, Birdy might do well.

Brittany is a popular name in my small home county of the state.
When I named my daughter, and then every mother liked and named after her.
And later years, I found their same name at the grade and high school:
Brittany T.
Brittany B.
Brittani
Brittaney
Britney
Why Brittany? Because every mother like it.
Some called me and my daughter, Birdy. How I feel? Fine, everyone called me and her the different names.

brittany is a pet form of bretage.. which is a place in france. which english settlers lived. it was actually one of the most unique cities of the time because english were coming to america at the time.. not france.
you should know what your name means before you call it unoriginal =]

I would leave your legal name Brittany, there's just no point. if people already call you birdy then what is your drivers liscence going to do to further that? Nothing, it's just wasted money.

Birdy? I woudln't change my name to a nickname if I were you. My youngest kid is called goob because he is so silly.
My name is Jennifer and I wouldn't change it although it too seems like millions of girls have my name.
What's your middle name? Or going by Brit, or changing the spelling to make it unique.

Do you want to go to a job interview and introduce yourself as Birdy? It sounds a bit childish to me.
What about Brita, Bryce, or Bella?
