Don't worry. you and your baby are fine. The radiation dose used during a dental exam is very low. Also, the plastic cone that is placed against your cheek, actually contains a metal cone that collimates the x-ray into a fine narrow beam. Only the area of the film plate in your mouth is being exposed. Dental x-ray technic is usually 50KV and at that low level, the x-ray beam can't travel very far before it is reduced to next to nothing. The leaded apron that you wear, is only there to block the low level "scattered x-rays" that bounce off your teeth.

You are well within the safe limit. The person taking x rays would also have placed a lead shield protecting your abdomen and thyroid. Dental films in the last 10 years have been improved to become extremely sensitive and fast so even a full mouth set of films (18 films) would be equivalent to the amount of radiation you receive outside on a sunny day in about 15 minutes.

you should be ok. The dentist usually puts an apron on you to protect your body. So baby should be fine.

It's probably fine. That's why they have you put that lead apron on. I doubt that it would hurt the baby at all. Good luck and congratulations!

Don't worry about it. Radiation "can" be harmful, but you did wear a "bib" (right?) and you should be fine. Don't get anymore X-Rays done unless it's deemed totally necessary, and be sure to be upfront about it with your doctor.

If you are concerned, mention it to your OB-GYN. They should be able to calm your fears.

The warnings are as a precaution.

If you are worried then ask your midwife at your next meeting.

Regards and all the best!
