Depends on the person. Some do much better without friends. In fact, I can think of several loners whom I have never seen with other people.

it depends
i thought i had alot of friends til my ex got into a huge accident while we were still married and our son was very small
we always had ppl over or going to others houses for parties and get together
UNTIL
the accident then no one came around anymore, no one even called to find out if i was ok or i needed a break or a sitter for both of them while i ran to the store or if i even needed milk
out of about 50 ppl who we thought were friends there were 3 couples who honestly cared
gave me a break from my house for 30 mins while i went to store
asked if i needed anything because they were going
asked if i needed a sitter while i took ex to Dr
it all boils down to what my mother pounded into my head yrs before
you will always find out who your true friends are when "IT HITS THE FAN"

yes friends are an essential part of life humans are social creatures that is why they use solitary confinement as punishment...but sociapaths feed off of people (so to speak) instead of befriending people so I guess they are the exception to the rule...
