Here is a link to an informative site with lots of links about wind energy. There are more and more small turbines available now and you may find a system that works for you.
Prices vary a lot and some states have tax credits to help pay for them.

The practical problem is that you need to put the wind turbine on an expensive high tower to get constant winds. Your town zoning may not permit that tower. The other practical problem is that the spinning blades make a constant annoying sound that will drive you and your neighbors crazy. If your neighbors are savvy enough about turbines to realize that they may block your application to put in the tower and the turbine.
