Suggestion . . edit your question to include your speed expectations and approximate budget.

If you need to keep up with 45 mph traffic select at least a 150cc scooter, which will require insurance, registration, and a motorcycle driver license endorsement.

Might find a good used value on your regional craigslist > for sale > motorcycles . . Honda, Yamaha, Kymco.

Don't forget to budget for proper riding gear . . this video shows why:

Look into the Stella- identical to a classic Vespa, but new and just as cool. Great color options too. The Honda Metro is too slow. Try to stick to the 2-stroke 50cc scooters- more power- unless you don't need it or want to go over 20 mph up a hill...

Vespa all the way! Yes, they are not as reliable as Honda, but they are easy to work on. You can fix almost anything yourself.
I had a Russian made (!) Vespa long, long time ago (yes, there's such a thing as Russian Vespa. They copied Vespa to the last detail and make it in Russia under the name "Vyatka.") It was a neat little thing. Broke down a lot, but was very easy to fix and fun to ride.

Well, Vespa is the original - and that styling is hard to beat. There are several companies making close replicas. For cost and reliability AND good looks, I'd go with the Honda Metropolitan:

I agree with JeffyB
The Honda and Yamaha scooters are the best buy for the buck.
Both brands are quality made, require minimal maintenance, parts are readily available and they have a long life span.

The italian Aprilia scooters are some of the most advanced and best made but they are more expensive than the hondas or yamahas. However, worldwide they do sell more than the japanese makes.

Vespas look cool, bu tthey are not that well made (reliable). Get a Honda or Yamaha. You won't be sorry.

If it really is the right device for the interest , bypass for it. If I lived and labored contained in the loop, i'd shuttle on a scooter. Lame? they're very cool, as well as reasonably-priced. experience your own experience.
