It's really likely to be a perception thing; we always seem to hit the red light when we're in a hurry :)
In general, though, modern traffic signals *are* set-up to provide some sort of linking, so there is a "green wave" for vehicles travelling on the main road. This means if you're travelling on what's considered a "minor road", you're likely to be stopped more often... and you very rarely get any sort of progression if you're making lots of turns during your trip - linking is generally provided for "straight-through" movements.
Also note that it is extremely difficult to get good two-way progression, unless the distance between the main road signals is "just right" AND vehicles travel at a constant speed. Most routes are set-up to favour a particular direction at a particular time of day and if you happen to be travelling the other way, you probably won't get good progression.

All the time, and in all actuality there aren't More red lights, as much as there is More Notice of them.
And really, when you're in a hurry, isn't it because you're already late anyway?

Yes, and don't forget to throw in the person who pulls out right in front of you (when there isn't anyone for miles behind you) and the occasional farmer driving down the road in his tractor (OK, so I live in Wiscosnin)!

Maybe it's because you \we are speeding and the light's are timed , so we get to the light before we should .
