I'm in the middle of getting together example problems and answers for a trigonomety project. I have found a good example but I am not sure if I have solved it correctly. I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out by solving the problem. Thank you.

The problem that I am using is number 8 on this website.

The dotted line is also 300 feet long.

x + y = height of the smokestack

tan(50) = x/300
x = tan(50) * 300 = 357.52607777826298761159242155813 ft.

tan(20) = y/300
y = tan(20) * 300 = 109.19107027986070840531436483305 ft.

x + y = 466.71714805812369601690678639118 ft.

After leaving an airport, a airplane flies for a million.5h at a velocity of 200km/h on a procedure 2 hundred ranges. Drawing a vector starting up on the muse of an x-y graph, 200º will look contained in the third quadrant, 20º less than the -x axis. The length of this vector = 200km/h * a million.5h = 300km The x element of this vector = three hundred * sin20º = ? The y element of this vector = three hundred * cos20º = ? because that this vector is contained in the third quadrant, both elements will be adverse in value. Then, on a procedure 340 ranges, the airplane flies for 2h at a velocity of 250km/h. The length of this vector = 250km/h * 2h = 500km Drawing a vector starting up on the muse of an x-y graph, 340º will look contained in the 4th quadrant, 20º less than the +x axis The x element of this vector = 500 * sin20º = ? The y element of this vector = 500 * cos20º = ? because that this vector is contained in the 4th quadrant, the x element will be useful and the y element will be adverse. next, algebraically upload both x elements to get an x resultant (your including 2 negatives) Then algebraically upload both y elements to get a y resultant (you're including a adverse and an excellent) Your very last equation is, (distance of airplane from airport)² = (x resultant)² + (y resultant)² hint: 300km < (distance of airplane from airport) < 350km

x.cos 50= 300 so we have 300/cos 50=x
then x= 466.72 this is the longitude of the hyp

the height of the smokestack is 466.72sin 50 = h = 357.52

The height of the building is 300sin 20 + 357.52 = 460.13

Tan = opp/a = opposite / adjacent side.
You are given the adjacent side to each angle as 300 ft.
Therefore a=300.
For the top section: tan (20 deg) = 0.3640 (lookup table)
0.3640 = opp/a = opp/300
opp = 109.2 ft (top part of stack)

For lower section: tan (50 deg) = 1.192 (lookup table)
1.192 = opp/a = opp/300
opp = 357.5 ft

Smokestack total height = 109.2+357.5 = 466.7 ft

The bottom and the top of the building is 300 feet away from the smokestack

tanθ = y /x

tan20 = y / 300

300tan20 = 300(y/300)

300tan20 = y

300(0.363970234) = y

109.1910703 = y

109.2 feet = y

The height of the smokestack is 109.2 feet
