We were told yesterday that a boss from downtown was coming over today -- he didn't say why. Well, he was supposed to show up two hours ago and he hasn't. Instead, a couple of people from HR are conducting some kind of one-on-one interviews in the back room. The one guy I've talked to said he can't talk about whatever it was they discussed, so apparently this is something other than an ordinary evaluation.

I'm so anxious right now, I don't know what to do with myself. I have a problem with anxiety as it is, and this isn't helping. If something doesn't happen soon, I'm going to drop! What the hell can I do?!

Stay calm. There may hav ebeen some sort of incident which HR is investigating, and which involves highly confidential matters ( if it was about you, wouldn't you want them to keep it conifdential??). So just be patient.

It might be about tax forms...

Now is the time for open enrollment so it could be about benefits packages...

Some people are receiving quarterly bonuses in April so it may be that...

Or it may be evaluations (meaning work performance)...don't sweat it...

It could be also an internal security issue or about company information that is subject to corporate espionage...

Do some mental focusing exercises to help your anxieties and don't worry..I bet it is minor or something that you can handle or doesn't pertain to you...

if you are guilty of anything major however, it might be good to get out now...

Relax. It may be periodic evaluations. It could be an internal investigation. It could be interviews for a promotion or new job.

Try deep breathing exercises...and telephone the closest clerical worker to the activity and ask if your name is on the list to be spoken with today.

It is very important that you appear busy whenever the "boss" arrives...try to be too engaged in your work to even notice him/her. They (employers) feel that they are getting their money's worth that way. They are NOT paying you to "freak out" just because they are in the vicinity.

Just remain calm until you find out what is going on. I was put in that situation a few months ago by my employer. Just remember whatever happens, happens for a reason. That is the way that I looked at it. Much luck.

Take a deep breath....in with good air, out with bad....be professional. Who do you think is the perfect business person? Pretend you are them, and do what you think they would do, like you are in a play or something. Remember, you are them, not you. Blow them away, and let them know by your actions and professionalism that you are an asset to the company and a desired employee.

Rumors! I wouldn't think anything until I got called in and found out what is going on. Don't worry about it you may not even get called. They may be conducting an employee review is all.

Are you guilty of embezzling funds or something ?
Are you guilty of using the company computer to view porno ?
If you have a clear conscience , why the sweat ?
If you don't , start planning for the new job search.
Anxiety solves nothing .
Act accordingly , guilty ? or not guilty ?
