I learned a LONG time ago not to say things like that that I don't really mean. I found out if I make an offer like that, and I didn't really mean it, and they take me up on it, all it does is make me angry! And it's MY fault!! So now, if I make the statement to someone "call if you need me", or " come as often as you like" or " I'll be there anytime" I MEAN it!!

To a certain extent-ya-but if a person started showing up at my house everyday after I said "come as often as you like" I would get pretty annoyed!! So basically, it's like anything else in life "within reason" is the key!!

No, it's like when people say, "eat anything in the fridge!" Once my mom was starving and was at someones house and the hostess said to go ahead and eat everything in the fridge, and she ended up eating a peace of a surprise party b-day cake. The hostess thought her husband had eaten the cake, and started yelling at him.

Most No They are just trying to be hospitable and the ones that do mean are the people that no one would want to go back unless they had too.

No. Sometimes they say to be social. But really don't want
you to show up every single day or even once a week.

To an extent but its not literal. Its comforting for you to hear it encouraging you to go there but no one wants to be around the same person/people all the time.

no...because if someone started coming as if they lived there that person may start saying "come as often as I like"

I would never say that if I didn't mean it. And quite frankly I wouldn't say that either.

If they don't mean it, then they shouldn't say it.
I would rather say something like "let's get together again some time soon"

If they sincerely enjoyed your company.. yeah .. I think so..
But if that was an act as well.. nah.. they are faking it.
You just have to be better are seeing through them than they are at putting on a show :)
