Free does NOT mean legal! If I walked up to you and handed you a suitcase full of drugs, it would still be illegal even if it was "free," right?
It is not illegal to download or use Limewire to share files - AS LONG AS the files are not copyrighted. Which means that it's illegal to download music, books, etc. from Limewire.

Sites like Kaaza, Limewire and others that you dont pay for, are illegal once you download a song. In my area recently, a man was charged over 9,000 dollars because his son had been downloading music from one of those sites and in my local newspaper they were talking about how they are crackin down on illegal downloaders and taking them to court and the fines are enormous. I'm just not gonna take the chance. Who can afford thousands of dollars if you get caught? Its definitely a gamble and sometime or another your luck will run out.

It really is illegal because people say that lime wire is only illegal when someone shares songs but Limwire is already shared somgs from another person that might of bought there songs from Itunes. People should have to buy there own music.
I hope I helped out

P2P technology and the P2P clients such as limewire, bearshare, and many bittorrent apps are not illegal in and of themselves. Downloading or uploading (some say just uploading) copyrighted material is illegal however.

Me and my husband just had this exact conversation. I think that it is illegal. I dont know why it hasnt been pulled from the internet yet. But just to be safe, we are not using it anymore. They are really cracking down on people who download free music. plus I havent had any viruses from it yet, but I hear that alot of other people have had problems with it. I wouldnt use it.

If you do it for FREE, then you are stealing - would you walk out of the local CD store withOUT paying for your CD? If you download from any place that allows FREE downloads you are doing the same thing. Here are a couple articles on it.
