Try white vinegar. A good way to apply it is to use a sponge type mop. Soak mop in full strength vinegar and swipe over the ceiling. Re-apply every day for a few days.
Follow up by applying once a week to prevent re-growth. Fungal spores are in all of our homes and they wont just disappear--and the bathroom is a lovely environment for them: warm and moist.
If the ceiling has discolored, then you may indeed need to re-paint, for cosmetic purposes.

Tilex mildew root remover
Found in the cleaning solution section of just about any grocery store.
It comes in a blue bottle and smells really stout. Do not let the spray get into your eyes.
Stand on a step ladder in the shower, spray that spot really thoroughly, let the cleaner stand for a few minutes, the stain will lighten and wipe down with damp sponge soaked in bleach. You may have to repeat this as the stain returns.
Running an exhaust fan while showering will help keep the condensation down in the bathroom so that your fungus might not return.

Use a mixture of 4 parts water and 1 part bleach. This should kill the fungus, which is probably mold. You need to ventilate the room with either an exhaust fan or open window. Wipe down wet areas after using the tub/shower. Try to get some airflow going to the room.

Fungus of any kind is nasty, but in the shower it can be nasty. ok, have you tried bleach, and if that hasnt worked how about vinegar sprays, mold and mildew is a hard thing to get rid of sometimes its the wood that is causing the fungus, somewoods contain a fungus that is never out when you buy it by then its tolate and its already growing, sometime the wood has to be removed before the remedy is there, if its a growing fungus your best bet is to get rid of the wood re-painting it wont get rid of the problem all it would take is a small place that wasnt painted for it to start its regrowth.

You can use white vinegar, full strength, spray and wipe. Does your bathroom have a window or fan, this is usually caused from condensation and opening a window or using a fan during the shower will help.
