Allow them time to play, and allow them to run and jump...encourage that. Then engage him in a quiet activity by removing stimulus like tv, or loud noises. Talk slowly and in a calming voice. You can even produce a routine like scratching their back lightly and singing to them in a soft voice. Don't worry if your singing won't win you a spot on american idol, they can't tell what is off key.

Try to remember that the two year old is exactly THAT. TWO YEARS OLD. it is your job as the adult to be patient and remember that patience and sitting still are learned activities.
Do work with the child in short sessions. For example, if the activity is coloring, let the child sit and color and when she needs to get up, let her, and praise her for the time sitting. gradually increase the "still" activity time. making sure the child also gets plenty of what children need, which is active play time. Also, keep the amount of sugar that the child eats to a minimum, in can really contribute to the child feeling hyper-active and having difficulty sitting still.
Good Luck

Start slow. Choose an activity and have the child sit with you for a few minutes to engage in it. Then increase the time the child sits a little every few days. Children need to learn how to sustain their attention. Also, be aware of what is developmentally appropriate. Most two year olds can only attend to an activity for a few minutes at a time. Their little bodies were meant to be moving.

You can give some items with which the child is interested and make it to certain height so that it tries to reach by sitting.

Then keep on moving the item and with in two three days it will go on its own and then you will suffer like any thing to control the child.

Think that is kind of like trying to get a junior high kid to do calculus .
Maybe you are pushing for too much , stuff beyond their ability ?
Try the reward system , you allow them a favorite thing if they do the certain activity , but again . . .
This may be premature for a 2 yr old .

Sit there with them & teach them how to both do the activity and how to concentrate on it/sit still to get it done. Make sure it's something interesting to them. You may have to sit with them while they learn how, over & over & over again.
