Maybe if they lost their minds, they would become ruthless dictators. What's your own opinion?

Most people are nice to me when they want something..

I'm usually nice all the time, barring possibly pms moodswings and when I feel wronged, used or cheated.

Some of your answers remind me of that movie where some guy said " Life is like a box of chocolates" etc. No I don't recall all the details!
There are many folk that I have met and immediately liked and respected , there have been others that eventually I have lost all faith or respect for!
I am sure that the reverse also applies, but I'm having problems with your second part of the question, the 'ruthless dictators' bit?
I suppose any one that has lost their mind could (amongst other things) become a ruthless dictator, or at least try..
A very strange question I don't really know anyone who 'pretends'! I think those types can be sniffed out immediately!

We are all a bit selfish by nature. Selfishness is, I'm afraid, an integral part of human nature so to some extent, we all only like someone when it suits us. However, civilization has taught us that sometimes we have to co-operate with people, compromise or even sacrifice ourselves a little bit for the benefit of ourselves as well as the community. The better education you have received, the more likely it is for you to see beyond your own needs and become more accepting of others. Then perhaps you'll start to appreciate people even when they don't seem to serve a particular purpose in your life.

I only like chocolate when it is there. When it is not there I'm not bothered. I make do with whatever else is there.

Sometimes, if I have had too much chocolate recently, then even if chocolate is there I don't want it. However, leave it there for a while and I will surely return to have some more eventually.

As for becoming a ruthless dictator, I can't see what that has got to do with liking chocolate or not?

I would say that you can only really like someone if it suits you. In the long term, our relationships, at least the ones we choose, are based on compatibility and common interests and goals. Therefore if someone does not "suit" you, then most likely they will not like you nor will you like them.

Most of the time people when say they like someone, it means they are neutral but positive toward the person. It is a phrase; like when strangers ask "how are you?" with out any real desire to know the answer. Which is why most people reply "Fine" with out actually being fine. If you want to test this, next time someone asks how you are, reply honestly. Watch them get uncomfortable quickly, as they are not ready to respond to a negative answer.

Now if you mean why do people PRETEND to like you, then we have a different question and to that question there are many, many, many answers.

However neutrality is not a negative. There are 6600 Million people on this planet. The best result is to be neutral to 99.99999% of them and to have them be neutral to you.

People like that only talk you or give you the time of day if they want something from you. Most don't have the personality to become dictators.

I have learned that if I want to keep someone around, I have to take the good, bad, and ugly of them. If you are truly going to call someone a friend, you must do this for them and they for you. If not, it's not a true friendship.

And PS: I lost my mind a looooong time ago, but I'm not a dictator! LOL ;)

They are caled Fair weather friends. Basically they are shallow.
I like to hink I am a genuine person. I have learnt it is best to be honest and speak your mind. I find people respect you for that. I try not to hurt or offend others however if they are I apologise but stick to what I believe in.
My friends know I will give my honest oppinion so if they think I am not going to tell them what they want to hear they dont ask.

Losing your mind would surely make you mindless,
Losing ruth would leave you ruthless,
Can't say about the dictators...........I get a smattering of both from time to time!

Because some people are like that.. not all...but some..these people haven't really got any friends so can be very manipulative towards those that they think they can take advantage of... they are not worth the ground they walk on and one day the cards will be turned and they will realise how sad they are

I have often wondered why that is myself. I like everyone, all the time. Unless they p... me off for some reason.
There are people round here that will go out of their way to talk and the next time you see them and your all smiles as they're coming towards you, they completely snub you as if they'd never met you before. I can't understand that, but i know its embarrassing. So the next time you see them you don't smile, they do and they think you're the ignorant one. Can't win really.
