I believe people constantly misunderstand history. They seem to conveniently remember things like racism but forget things like strong families and marriage. Some things that were true in the past and accepted as normal (like racism and women as property) are no longer acceptable. That is the type of evolution one would like to see.

But then there is the other type. In the language of evolution it would be known as a mutation. This is an abrupt and an undesirable change. For instance, even in the 1950's almost no one divorced. Divorce was seen as a serious failure. Now we have people divorcing left and right and the damage they cause their children is undeniable. That is not what one wants to see.

The question is what fuels the sudden wave of mass mutations to the body of society? The answer involves a huge baby-boomer generation that was totally self-centered and over indulgent parents. In fact, most authority figures were over indulgent with baby boomers.

You can see us now, (I, too am a boomer) desperately trying to stay young. Continuing the narcissistic lifestyle that has caused so much heartache for our children. The result is a country much less morally centered than ever. Young girls who have no relationships with their fathers. Young boys with no positive male role models. While their fathers color their hair, take Viagra and chase skirts.

It isn't just politics. It is everything the Baby-Boomers touched. Whether it was the movie industry, the music industry, the television industry even the publishing industry. Most every message the young people hear is not positive nor uplifting.

The pendulum needs to swing back again. Reagan managed to do it. That was an important burst of course correction. I remember the young people in college during his term with neat haircuts and pressed trouser and deck shoes. They were majoring in business and computer science. Most had job waiting when they graduated.

But that patriotic optomism has gone. We Americans are desperated for a leader. The first President Bush was much too moderate and accomodating. Bill Clinton was a more of a game show host than a president. The current president Bush is also too much of an accomodater to his opponents. He is much too moderate and even liberal in some instances. He is not a conservative and does not inspire.

We need a good conservative, charismatic leader who really likes to engage his opponents and sent them reeling. There are a lot of young people who want to believe in America. All they need is the right leader.

As a parent with children in middle school and high school, I say yes. Turn on MTV and look at 90% of what they show on there. I am aware that I can change the channel if I don't approve, but how many teens and preteens--supervised and unsupervised--will do so? I don't remember this kind of programming when i was a kid. Back then, "Three's Company" was the one of the few shows that about half raised an eyebrow, and that show would be considered a Disney Channel Movie by today's standards.

BTW, great question. I blame ALL persons in the spotlight, i.e. politicians, entertainers, journalists, athletes, etc. who have publically abandoned common moral decency. I also blame parents who have done the same by failing to set a good example for their children.

No. People who do not respect the right of all people and feel the need to discrimate are destroying the moral fabric of American Society. People should remember a very important value that the nation was built on - All men are created equal.

The moral fabric of our society is unraveling because it is changing. We don't know yet whether the change is for good or bad, and how it affects us depends on who we are. The Goths loved tearing down Rome, but the Romans didn't like the Dark Ages that followed. The plague destroyed over a third of the civilized population of the world, but the following food glut allowed the Renaissance to flourish.

We can either be Chicken Little running around and worrying, or participate in the positive parts of the change ourselves.

I think there are a lot of bad people in our society, but would not say our moral fiber is disintegrating. While I do think some of the younger generation is spoiled and disrespectful, there are also good examples in society. For example, who would have thought 40 years ago that a black man and a white woman would be running for President without fearing for their life.I think this has more to do with parenting than it has to do with politics. I was always taught to respect other people and care about others. Some people have lost sight of this in our society, but not all.

I doubt we are in the end-times. I'm not sure how the world will end or if it will end for that matter.

I don't think there is anything wrong with one night stands. some think sex and emotional commitment are intertwined, I think some people (not all) can seperate the two.

I do think double standards are wrong- but they've been a part of history and our country forever (think all men are created equal except for non-whites and females)
The same goes for hate. hate is horrible but has been around since day one.
I don't think anyone hates 'god'. I think some don't believe in a god and hate that people try and force them to acknowledge something they don't think exists. if someone wants to mock someone, even jesus, they can. its rude and immature and shouldn't bother anyone because its a petty thing to do

pedophilia has also been around forever. I've read guides on it from before the roman empire. its hard to say if it is protected by the 1st amendment or not.
and it was horrible that the teach got off- but I understadn why. the child couldn't testify because he was too emotionally hurt and without his testimony the case had problems and the sentence was too light.

We have something called the 8th amendment- no cruel or unusual punishment. and the people we have detained aren't nessacarily terrorists. logically if a lrage number of people are captured someone has to be innocent within that groups.
we're proven that by letting some people go already.

abortion has been around since the BC era and a fetus is not a baby.

since we have a seperation of church and state schools shouldn't have religious based programs. and there shouldn't be any religious displays on public grounds paid for by taxes.
if there are such displays they should have them for all religions in the area- all that are requested

I don't know when birthcontrol should be brought up. but if kids are having sex or going to they should be taught to be safe. and teaching kids about safety doesn't mean they will have sex. I've known about birthcontrol since I was in elementary school (I learned from my family and tv before the school brought it up) and I didn't have sex at a young age.
my parents taught me things and kept me informed and I made good choices.

as far as tv and internet goes- parents can put parental locks on them. most tvs come with a V-chip. make the password hard for your children to figure it out and do some actual parenting. don't blame the tv because you choose it to be the full time babysitter for your offspring and its not qualified to do so

politics are partially responcible. instead of teaching people to be kind, loving, and make compromises- partys preach hate, anger, and refuse to budge on issues
instead of teaching people things we fear them having knowledge.
and instead of censoring tv, limiting sex ed in school, telling teachers they can't answer questions about religion
(like why there are different ones and why the state isn't represented by any religions, ect) and other stuff
we should have parents actually take responcibility for their children and not fear them having knowledge of any kind because they will not make bad choices since they were taught better.

and I don't think adults should be compromised for the sake of children and so children don't hear or see or know about adult activities. activities adults are well within their rights to practice and have the maturity to pratice

Trickle down ethics from top to bottom. Karl Rovian tactics and lies to cover personal gain at public expense lead the way not only in business but personal affairs. State controlled media tell the people what they should be - selfish consumers who are nothing unless they have more toys than their neighbors. Oh but as long as you love Jesus, its ok!

Great job of finding one thing that most people can agree on. Keep this up and you may end up making politics a little less important in government ;-)

Politics and media also. Media allows a small group of people to influence the masses.
