It is generally cold and windy on the bay with temps in the low 40's.

A coat and hat or a hoodie are always advisable even during the warmest days.

Everyone who lives here says it's cold and chilly (as if it were Moscow).

But I've lived through Canadian winters. And Californians are the biggest weather wimps on the planet. Everything has to be "just right" for them. Sorry, but you know it's true, guys.

Believe me, compared to Canada, anywhere along the California coast is paradise. At worse, it'll drop into the upper 30s and low 40s at night. It snows only once every 25 years in San Francisco. And there's actually very little hail or freezing rain.

A jacket and sweatshirts will do. And no shorts.

The ocean is too cold to swim in without a wetsuit though (and there are sharks). So, do take those warnings seriously. The only place you can swim safely is Santa Cruz Beach - about 70 miles south of San Francisco. It's faces south and is protected from the cold off-shore flow by it's crescent landmass.

Right now, as I type this, the SF temperatures are expected to reach a high of 60 deg F. And on top of that rather brisk temperature, there is a brisk wind, driving the how it feels temperature further down due to wind chill.

My advice...layer. Rather than one heavy jacket, wear a light windbreaker over a sweater or fleece. And wear that over a shirt or blouse. If the temperature starts to warm up, you can always peel. Also wear a hat and sun glasses. The hat will help you keep warm and shade you from the sun; and you know what sun glasses can do.

COld is relative. If your from minnesota, you might not think much of the weather, but would think its freezing if your from San Diego.

I suggest you should be prepared for it being cold. It can go below 30 in San Francisco, but at this time of the year, I doubt it. I would find it still cold though because of wind factor and water might splash over the ship.

Bring warm clothes for the cruise, especially if you're coming soon; we're having a bit of a cold snap (lows in the 40s).

SF natives know to dress in layers. Weather can vary in just a few miles.

You just know that I have to say it:

"The coldest winter I've ever spent was a summer in San Francisco."
