When you look back into Western history, we did exactly the same things. We suppressed and killed and tortured in the name of culture and religion as well.

And most of it was the result of our own fanatics and politicians.

NO.
Many countries in the Middle East are not like that. Yes, many do have religions where women are oppresed, and many do have hatred towards the West (but notice how this is directed towards the west, and not places like Australia, New Zealand or Japan) MAny of these have been provoked by that idiot Bush and his puppet Blair. (I'm English, so I know what damage these idiots are doing to their own countries, and those of other people).
These are countries where many people are poor, and corruption is rife, is it really a suprise that many people live in misery? Also, there are plenty of peace ful middle east countries (though many of those that arn't are fighting over resources such as oil - it'll be better when we're all using solar power).
THey are not living in the dark ages, or there would be an even stricter higherachy of society, more wars, more 'true' (As in not radical) religion, and wooden huts with people throwing spears.
Sorry, but your ideas are totally biased and incorrect. Please visit these countries, many of which are remarkable countries and wonderful places in the world to visit, as I have often dome on business trips, and holidays, and appreciate that in some areas, they see us as being rather stuck in the middle ages and in some ways, you can see where they are coming from.
Yes, some countries are like your description, but there are also countries in Europe, Africa, and the Far East that are the same. Infact, the views of many americans are rather old (Such as thier hatred of gays, anyone who isn't christian, and so on) . Look at the UK - we have the crappiest NHS in Europe, 5 people a week being shot in London alone, and more drug users than anywhere else I know.
Look at the problems of your own country before you start on the problems of others.

What planet do you live on. People living in the Gulf states are wealthy, civilised with a modern outlook. Some people are suppressed, yes, but many, many people can live normal happy lives. Not every country in the Middle East is like Iraq and Iran

I take it that all you know of the Middle East comes from the media and you have never been there?
I have worked in Oman, UAE and Kuwait and they are very nice people. Proud, courteous, civilised and happy.
Do not believe the crap that is pushed around the media and by certain governments about how they are all terrorists whose only emotion is hatred of the West.
They love life and peace just like you and me, are kind and warm to strangers, more so than we are. There are fanatics in all societies and countries, the middle east does not have a monopoly on them.
If the truth were told, we are worse than them.

I think they know more than "misery and death etc".. !
But in a waymaybe you are right: The women have few rights, the educational level is very low (high level of analphabetism) (i.e. they don't use all of a country's HR and talent, incl women's), there is too much emphasis on religious law and tradtition. There is a great gap betw the haves and the have nots - I mean GREAT. Their mentality is than of the feudal society in many ways, and that's very "non-democratic" mentality.
So... what to do?

You guys need to open your eyes a little more...

There r religious fanatics all over the world, not only in the Middle-East!
Arabs are known for their hospitality and kindness. Only a minority of them engage in violence. If you base your opinions on minorities, then all Americans are as dumb as their President...following same logic..
I'm an American, but I've travelled, and i'm definitely not dumb ty.

So whether you open your eyes and stop insulting people/ a culture that you don't even know; or you become like the fanatics themselves, in which case, you are definitely not better than them by insulting them now.

Once again it's the poor people who get the misery and the rich oil Arabs get the wealth, nice lifestyle and the servants to do their work. What I don't understand is the Iraqis wanted rid of Sadam now he's gone they're fighting amongst the two main religious sects, why can't they just get on and pull the country back together.

learn the rustic of Pakistan. Which become initially the Islamic republic of Pakistan. Islam become on the upward thrust in India, besides as many different international locations in the 1940's. maximum international locations in the east have been non-christian. Constantinople become the final Christian sturdy carry in the eu east inherited by ability of the Byzantium's until eventually now it fell to the ottomans and then it become renamed Istanbul. The Roman Catholic church lost lots of its provinces that it held for years to its Islamic fighters. because of the radicalism of islam, for many peoples replace got here swifter than their interior of sight religions. as nicely to the Indian independence flow which demanded an autonomous India, the Pakistan flow led by ability of Muhammad Ali Jinnah of the Muslim League, additionally sought an autonomous India, sought an autonomous state for many folk Muslim populations of the eastern and western areas of British India. The British granted independence and likewise the introduction of the Muslim majority state of Pakistan. So i think the Philosophy of Islam has introduced approximately replace in an intensive sort plenty swifter than its non-Islamic counter aspects. In a manner it rather is quite like Communism vs Democracy/capitalism. Communism works for each individual, and so would capitalism if discrimination had no hand in it. My suggestions Peace

Since you are so opinionated, I wonder how many you have visited. I have lived in Morocco for 17 months, and Iraq for 11 months. I also visited Kuwait and Qatar. I don't think that you know what you are talking about.

The people there are just like the people here. All the trouble over there is created by their politicians (some of whom masquerade as religious leaders), and the fools that follow them. We have the same situation here. Millions of fools are ready to go and kill whomever our politicians and their lackeys in the media tell us are our enemies.

In many ways they are better off than the much of the free and prosperous Western world. Many of them suffer from poverty and if we were truly progressive we would do what we could to help alievate that problem. That poverty and inequity is what has caused all this hatred and terrorism. Poverty in North America is the root of all crime. When faced with crime or death who amongst us would not choose crime.
Your attitude perpetuates the problem, truly intelligent people would work to correct the problem.
