Whatever is for sale in your local nursery can be planted at the time of sale or the earliest planting date for your zone, whichever is later.. Some will bloom later but they need to start growing sooner. If you buy seeds, there should be instructions on the packet.
Even bulbs can be planted now for bloom next year.

First thing first you need to go buy a flower book I have like 15 of them, you need to find out your planting zone.I live in Montana my planting zone is 4 so if i find a plant in zone 6 that I like it means in wont last because its not meant to grow in my zone.Right now in the next few weeks people will be planting seeds, annuals, perrennials and spring bulbs these flowers should all grow and bloom in the next 2-6 months and then by September and October people will be planting seeds perrennials and fall bulbs for these plants to come up in the spring and strart blooming. If you need a little help go to a good gardening web site like Wayside Gardens.com you can find your zone and check out good flowers for your zone(oh and a annual is a flower that only blooms one season and dies-some of them reseed themselves but just one blooming season, perrennial is a plant that comes up every year and gets a little bigger eventually most need to be divided and then you get another plant) Good luck!

Depending on the flowers ,an if they're seed there is on the packages the time to plant ,tempt and the best ground in you rstate and if your not sure yet, consult a horticulturalist on the best time to plant bulbs and or seed for your climate and grounds and you can also consult with a Garden and supply store on the best plants for your area.

Bulbs are planted in the Fall -- bloom in the Spring.
Tubers are planted in the spring when the ground will no longer have a hard frost -- bloom in the Summer and Fall, and then you dig them up again.
Annuals are planted when there is no chance of any frost!

google your topic or type of plant. If you're looking at seeds in a package then it tells you right on the back of the package.

The best thing to do is buy a book; it will contain all the information you will ever need.
