Any time there are racial tensions it's bound to have some effect on candidates who are playing up their race in order to be elected.

That would require that Liberals were capable of honestly evaluating racism, and the roles played by all sides. And I think they are much better with spin, personally.

I don't think so. First, I don't think it was just Sharpton and Jackson who "took down" Imus, nor was it just black people. All kinds of people were shocked and offended by that statement. Also, keep in mind that what Imus said wasn't just racist; it was also incredibly sexist--do you think it's going to affect Hillary's chances that he was taken off the air for making a sexist remark? Imus was taken down by the times. He made the fatal mistake of realizing too late that 2007 is not 1987, and what flew then just does not fly now. As it shouldn't. I don't think this will happen either, but if anything, Imus's downfall should lend support to Obama's cause. It's about time people other than blacks and women said "enough" to all the white old men in this country who feel it's their right to mock and denegrate those who are not in that elite club.

Imus was an example of sad shock jock pulling the racist card to get more viewers.

Race and racism is an issue Americans face on a daily basis.

Sorry to say.....racial tensions or not, this country is not ready to elect an African American as president.....

We are still too covertly racist......the Imus situation only illustrates this......there are actually those out there that think it is perfectly alright for him to have said this.....

We, as a nation, talk a good game.....but when we get behind those curtains in the voting booth......people just wont do it.......not for an African American....and not for a woman.....

Miles to go......

I just want to know why Obama has his white grandmother, who raised him from age 10, and paid for his education, hidden away, under guards, not able to talk to any news reporters, while he posed for photos with a black African woman who was not related to him at all (his muslim grandfathers 6th wife) and allowed that photo to be released to the media to be published with a bi-line identifying that black African woman as his grandmother Dunham, who raised him. Obamas grandmother Dunham is white, and living in Hawaii.

This is what the southern conservatives are hoping for. Hannity recently said Obama's church was "separatist".
