This person had applied for a job at my company, along with hundreds of other potential employees. She had called and was checking on the status of her application. I told her that we have stopped hiring. She said, " Well, I didn't get an interview. I put in an application and I didn't even get a chance to interview. I feel like I am entitled to an interview."

What do you think about this?

I'm in that same spot as that girl who filled out an application. I do the right thing and follow up with phone calls to check the status of my application. I feel that applications only tell a small portion of what a potential employee really is and that a person should deserve an interview, especially if they call back and are genuinely interested in working for that company. Alot of employers also don't understand the sense of urgency us applicants have in finding employment. There's alot of frustration that goes with trying to find a decent job and not even being granted an interview, especially if it's a job that you know that you are more than qualified for and that you can excel at.

If you still have the contact information of the person you interviewed with and sent a thank you note to then I would contact them saying something like the following. "I noticed the job I applied for a few weeks ago was posted again. Did the other person you hired not work out or is this another similar position? I'd like your honest opinion should I resend my resume for the position or can we schedule an interview based on my old resume?" I hope this helps and wish you all the best. You don't suck they just haven't gotten to know how good you are. Good luck

No, companies don't have time to interview all applicants. Can you imagine if 1000 people applied how long it would take. If they don't like what they see on paper chances are they wont hire you anyway so why waste their (and applicants) time.

No, an application does not mean someone is entitled to an interview.

when response is overwhelming, company can shortlist people for interview. Some people are obviously not suitable based on their resume or application letter. Some are just not considered because you have found the right candidate.

No, you don't automatically get an interview, matter of fact, if there are spelling or grammatical errors in your resume, it goes straight in the "circular file" so calling constantly won't do any good.

not always, depends on qualification, and the weeding out process, I don't always interview everyone that applies for jobs for people I supervise.
