I don't want to hear about the US News and World Report Rankings, I can look at those myself.

Hi! I would be biased to say Georgetown because it is my alma mater, but honestly it really depends on you. There are many factors you have to consider when choosing a school. What people and teachers never tell you it's that it's not just about the school itself but also where the school is located. It is important to take in all factors into consideration.

From the academic stand point, you have to see what the school offers for you. Can you answer questions like, if I decide to change majors, do they have alternatives that I could see myself choosing? Are theclass structures what I would like? Now do you prefer open to close campus. Georgetown is a close and small campus. What are those things that matter more to you? From school spirit to what the dorms look like. You should really visit the schools and get a feel for them. Once you are there you'll get an idea if you would like the place.

And for the other aspect of choosing a school, see where it's located and the culture that surrounds it. Being in DC was a culture shock for me but one experience I would never change for the world. I have been to the city of Chicago but for me it was too cold. You have to really take into consideration all the things you might not think about as being important. Such as the whether, the population, the cultures, the style of living, if it is expensive to live in the area and these are to name a few.

I was at Georgetown for 4 years and they were great! The curriculum is hard but very rewarding. We have great teachers and the opportunities that come with living in the Nation's capital are endless. I do suggest you check out both schools before you make a decision ! Good luck to you! :)

Pay attention to the comments made by others about what suits you best in terms of the intellectual focus of the institution, the cultural feel of the institution, the city it is in, etc. These are important issues that only you can decide.

From an academic standpoint, Chicago has much more depth and a longer history in its graduate programs than does Georgetown. Chicago's legendary econ dept informs the business school and public policy school curricula (you can take courses from Econ professors, even if you're not in that dept., and many profs teach in more than one dept). The finance profs at the Chicago business school are second to none, as are the accounting profs. The culture of excellence and drive and the diverse resources of Chicago make it a superior school. Finally, if you're looking at MBA programs, the wider reputation of Chicago's business school opens more doors.

Neither school is necessarily better than the other because they are both good schools. The question is which college is better for you, which is something only you can figure out. You need to visit them, consider how far away from home you want to be, look at the strengths of the programs that you're interested (for example, if you're interested in history, how large is their faculty, what areas of history do they offer classes in, in which areas are they lacking). If I had to choose between the two I would probably go for Chicago, but that's my own personal preference and in no way reflects on the relative quality of programs at Chicago versus Georgetown.

These two schools are both respected, but they are quite different in tone. Georgetown students would have more of a reputation for being stylish and social, as well as pretty smart. Chicago students have a reputation for being nerdy, but in a good way - that is, they are so brutally smart and hardworking that even though they are geeky, you are forced to respect them. That's why something like 75 different Nobel prize winners have been associated with Chicago.

You would probably have more fun at Georgetown, but you would probably go further toward your intellectual potential at Chicago. What is important to you?

It matters what your criteria for better is... I think Georgetown is pretty well-known across country, but that is probably because of sports.
