I've been taking birth control pills for the last 2 months and last night I took 3 EPT tests which all came up positive. My oh so fabulous boyfriend told me that I'm probably not pregnant it's just that the birth control pills are tricking my body into thinking it is and that's why these tests came up positive. Is this true?

Well your obviously pregnant. Most women who get pregnant on the pill have missed at least one pill. However the pill is only 99% effective meaning that about 1% will be become pregnant. Abstinence is the only 100% effective birth control. Yes the pill tricks your body into thinking your pregnant in order to suppress ovulation. However the test looks for the HCG hormone which is only there is a fertilized egg has implanted, so it doesn't create false positives.

This is outside my area of expertise, but I do know that although one pregnancy test could possibly give a false positive result, THREE positive results means you're pregnant.

Like other people have said, the pill is only 99% effective at preventing pregnancy. That remaining 1% doesn't seem like much, but means that it IS possible. And that 1% could be even higher if the pill hasn't been used properly. For example, forgetting the pill one day, then "doubling up" the next. Or, if you've experienced an illness (in the past couple of months) where you had vomiting or diarrhea. The pill you took on that day (or series of days) could have been less effective.

Well, the way birth control pills work is they release hormones that trick your body into thinking that you're pregnant already, so you won't get pregnant for real. My guess is that if you are taking the pill and are not done with the pack, it could be that the test will show positive. Wait til you get to the placebo pill (the last 7 pills) to take the test again. It can be that you got pregnant while taking the pill- if you use it incorrectly you can become pregnant. I had friends that had that happen to them, they either forgot and skipped the pill for a day or more or threw up right after taking one so it was not effective.

No you are pregnant. You can have false negatives, but a positive is a positive. I was on birth control for 2 years and I got pregnant when I was on them. Especially since you have been on it only for 2 months. Usually it takes a month to get into your system, but if you didn't take the pill at the same time or missed one that will mess it up too. I took mine religiously but still got pregnant. Make an appointment with you OB/GYN to get blood tested and get prenatal vitamins. Start taking care of yourself and the baby. Congrats!?

I got pregnant ON the pill (had been on it 10 years non-stop) and got pregnant last Oct.
I'm now 27 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby boy :)

**I once took a pregnancy test while on the pill a few years back, it came back NEGATIVE .. birth control pills DO NOT trick your body into thinking you're pregnant!

pregnancy tests test for HCG hormone which is ONLY produced when you ARE pregnant.

congratulations to you! good luck! God bless!

You need to go to the doctor and take a test there. I've gotten pregnant twice on hormonal birth control methods, so it really can happen. I take a test once a month because I get pregnant so easily. I've had an IUD for 2 years and I've never had a positive test result. Good luck.

There is strong evidence that the Pill does not always prevent ovulation. This means that break-through ovulation occurs. For people that are on the combination pills, the rate of break-through ovulation ranges from 1.7% to 28.6% per cycle. For people that are on progesterone only pills, break through ovulation occurs from 33% to 65% of the time. "Breakthrough ovulation happens even among those who never miss a pill."

The Pill's first and primary mechanism is to inhibit ovulation. This is what most Birth Control companies say that their pill does, without mentioning the other "backup" mechanisms. The second mechanism is the thickening of the cervical mucus which makes it more difficult for sperm to travel to the egg. The third mechanism is where ethical decisions must take place. This mechanism thins and shrivels the lining of the uterus to the point that it is unable or less able to facilitate the implantation of the newly-fertilized egg. Since life begins at conception, this third mechanism is an abortifacient.

You need to go see your doctor and have a blood test to definately confirm it. EPT is a reliable test and Yes, you can get pregnant on the pill. My friend is currently pregnant and was on the pill when this happened. Good luck.

haha your fabulous boyfriend is a fabulous assh0le as well. You should already know this information if you're on the pill, it comes in the packet. That's why you should always read instructions. Here let me read to you from the info that came with my pills: "Typical failure rates are 5% a year. Chance of becoming preganant increases with each missed pill.". But it beats the 14% failure rate that condoms have. Sorry to tell you but if you took 3 tests and they're all positive, it doesn't get any more sure than that. Let's just hope your sensitive boyfriend sticks with you.

Yes, it usually takes 3 months for the pills to work.

If it shows up pregnant you probably are! Stop taking the BC and call your dr for a blood test.
