It depends on where you're looking. There are likely to be more gay people in some specific communities than others. Wikipedia has a rather lengthy article discussing the demographics and frequency of sexual orientation, but it seems the most common number is that 4% of Americans are gay or lesbian, as identified by both Kinsey and exit polls from the most recent national election.

It has always been said that 1 in 10 people are gay - that's 10%.
The U.S. has a population of over 200 million. 10% of that is 20 million.
Now apply that to the world's population of billions and that would make for a lot of gay people.

It's difficult to determine how many people are gay as it's not something we go about asking or taking a census on. And besides, people lie!
So I really wouldn't worry about it.

There's millions, probably billions. Not all are out, because some parts of the world still don't accept it, but they're still gay.
