The future is PC recording my friend. Get a decent PC with lots of RAM and hard drive space. Get a decent recording program. I use Logic Pro, but if you want top of the line, get ProTools. Definately have some sort of pre-amp. Good microphones are a must too.

Lots of people will try and sell you this sort of equipment, it is expensive and not very flexible.

The best option is the PC. You could probably keep using your current PC, maybe you need to boost the RAM and buy a top notch sound card (for inputing the sound into your computer, the standard ones that come with the computer are good for output, but often inferior for input).

Your mixing board is just software loaded on the computer, but you can buy one that will plug into your computer.

Quality mics and sound proofing foam are a must as well.

Basically buy starting with your computer, you can add on more equipment as you go. The guys in your local music shop love talking about music and recording equipment so you will keep going back and talk for hours and stuff.

Your computer will also be used to make your music video (to post of u-tube) and create a web page to promote your music.
