I was setup last night at a gas station, two guys approached me and asked me to buy them some beer and I made the mistake of saying yes. When I came out I told them to go around the building I would give it to them there. When I gave it to them I was stormed upon by local police and issued a citation for purhasing alcohol for a minor. It says a mistermeaner and I have to go to the superior court. I live in Sonoma County which is in N. California. I just want to know what do you think will happen? A fine, probation, community service? I dont know as this is my first offense ever, i have absolutely no priors.

And on another note I just wanted to say that I feel cheated by our government, I know what I did was wrong but come on there's rapist, murders, terrorists, and all sorts of bad people at there but there setting up stings to bust people for buying alcohol, I mean come on give me a break. Spend those tax dollars a little better then that.

I don't know but you should be horse whipped. What if you gave booze to a minor who then drove a car and killed himself or someone else? There is no limit to what could happen to a minor who gets his hands on liquor. What the hell is wrong with you? My son's best friend is dead thanks to a person like you. Someone bought him beer when they went camping. He got drunk and decided to go swimming. They found his body in the morning. He was only 16.

And you feel cheated?

Actually, this is a pretty big problem in California, since minors under the influence are demonstrably more likely to get into traffic accidents. Frankly, I worry a lot more about a drunk teenager on the freeway than the remote possibility that somebody might be a terrorist.

At any rate, although a violation of Business and Professions Code section 25658 is a misdemeanor (meaning you have a right to appointed counsel if you cannot afford one, and to a jury trial if you plead not guilty), you are facing a fine and/or community service. If the people were under 21, but not under 18, the fine is $250 (with additional assessments that means about $800). If they were under 18, the fine is $1,000 (with additional assessments that means about $3,200). There can be up to 48 hours of community service, depending upon what fine is imposed.

For your offense, jail is not a punishment. However, had these people drunk the booze, and then gotten into an accident causing serious injury or death, you would be looking at up to six months in jail.
