Search for "vet tech programs" and see what you find. I know that Michigan State University has one. You should be able to check their website and find the requirements. You might also look for vet schools, and see if they also offer a vet tech program at that college.

A Vet Tech is a vet nurse. you mostly want a 2 300 and sixty 5 days degree to artwork as a vet tech, yet skills do variety with some states. earnings may well be everywhere from $19,000 to $40-one,000. Vet Assistants are helpers to the Vet Techs and Vets. maximum veterinary clinics will hire assistants with a severe college degree. There are certificates classes for vet helping, yet technically there's no want for them on account which you do not would desire to be qualified to be a vet assistant. earnings may well be between $15,000 and $31,000 notwithstanding that's usually on the decrease factor.

Hey hunter!

To answer your question: You have to go to a school that has an AVMA accredited program for at least 2 years (to obtain your Associates in Veterinary Technology) before you can qualify for the VTNE's (Veterinary Technician National Exam). Before you become licensed however; you will have to take the state and national VTNE.

After graduation you can decide whether you want to specialize in a particular area and obtain classes this way.

You can also grab a Bachelor's degree in the field, which is highly concentrated in science/mathematics.

As for volunteering: You probably want to try your local shelter first. They will be more lenient in what their age/restriction requirements are for volunteers.

Basically you walk into the shelter, fill out a sheet and wait to hear back from the managers (or call them yourself). In a lot of places they will call you back and do a few training sessions to help you understand your responsibilities and duties.

I provided a link to more information about becoming a Veterinary Technician below:

There are several schools for Vet Tech training. It's usually just a 2 year class. Make sure you take Bio and those kind of classes when you get into High School. In order to volunteer at a vet clinic you'll have to call the vets around where you live and see if they are looking for anyone to volunteer at that moment. Most vets offices aren't wanting any volunteers, but animal shelters are always looking for someone to come in and play with the animals and help to care for them. There is a veterinary technician school that is located at base of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. it's called the Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology is one of the largest veterinary technician schools in the United States. If you've watched animal planet I'm sure you've heard of this place as this is where E-Vets get some of their staff and I think that 1 of the teachers is the owner of Alameda East the hospital where E-Vets takes place at. Good luck in your endeavor.
