I don't listen to Imus, but from what I understand, his show is full of insulting comedic rants, like a mild Howard Stern. It was a derogatory statement, but nowhere near as derogatory as 99% of the language used in rap music by other blacks.
Some people just want to feel angry and victimized.

on 60 minutes the different day they replayed an interview from ten years in the past. The interviewer claimed that imus advised imus' producer (at the same time as interior the vehicle) some thing with regards to n igger jokes. notwithstanding Imus denied that he reported the N be conscious. Then the interviewer ask the producer. the producer replied with, "certain i'm very constructive you reported the N be conscious." Then imus replied with "nicely i must have reported the N be conscious, yet that became an off the list verbal change" Racism is a controversy of the middle. you may also make an apology all you elect, notwithstanding it would not change the very reality he's a racist. the picture of Cheater can make an apology, yet in the journey that they cheater on says sorry because they were stuck, nicely, i'd somewhat demanding.

Well, according to David Carr in his NYTimes article, Don Imus, quote, called the students who play for the Rutgers University women’s basketball team a bunch of “nappy-headed ho’s.”

I agree with the individuals who are not accepting his apology, in that Imus KNOWS, being a nationally syndicated talk show host, how to talk and make his way around insults. He has to be aware of what comes out of that mouth of his...that is what makes his paycheck.

That comment is peculiar to him. Its nothing new. Both he and the media syndicates that he works for PROFIT hugely from his "shocking" remarks. It was an INTENDED remark. It was NOT a mistake.

So, the answer to your question is "NO." Imus should be banned for that kind of crap. You see this is more of an issue of free speech than that of race.

Look, I am all for a free market place and the freedom of speech. But, this kind of "shock-slander" commentary should not be allowed if its intent is to profiteer at the expense of others. It's unethical, period. It didn't matter WHAT race Imus targeted...the team's member make-up majority is black...but there are other races as well that was on that team. He not only made a racist remark, his comment was to demoralize the Rutger's team, and only continues to prove how low the media will stoop to get a buck, while not caring who they will bone to get it. The MEDIA SHOULD NOT DO THIS> Imus DIDN'T CARE...nor is his apology genuine.

After growing up in the north and moving to the south almost twenty years ago, I want to say racism is alive and well on both sides of the color issue. I have heard it from both sides down here, n*ggers are lazy and the honky crackers are keeping the blacks down. The further away you get from big metropolitan areas the more the ingrained racism appears to be, on both sides. We are all racist to some point. It's only the extreme racists who keep the crap going. We have gotten better over the past thirty years. I remember going to Florida about forty years ago as a ten year old from Philly. Walking down the street with my brother a black woman and her son were approaching from the other direction. As we got close to each other, the woman stepped off the sidewalk and let me and my brother pass. I didn't get the significance then, I do now. That kind of racism is hard to kill off. I can't even imagine what that black woman was thinking of us. Sad.

Racism is not just a white affliction, it can happen to anyone, any color. I think Imus should have met with the team, apologized and that should have ended the issue. Our media, and a few black leaders will drag this out as long as they can. If the Black Community is so upset about this, they need to get leaders with credibility out there, and not Sharpton and Jackson.

i did not make reference to race - he said nappy headed ###### - well most of the girls on the basketball team look like gangmembers or dress in the style. He should not say that as a professional. Also to value your life - it would not be advisable to say it. Alot of college basketball teams are drawn from the ranks of gangs - they are the toughest and most dangerous and roughest players. You always see gangmembers in them just as you do in the NBA. He should be forgiven if he is truly sorry - and should not be called a racist but sexist yes for saying ###### ! Black America is racist and will never ever let it go - dont count on it in your or my lifetime

Al Sharpton never apologized to white people over the Tijuana Brawley scandal and Jessie Jackson never apologized to white people for spiting in their food. So why should Imus have to apologize

I see a lot of people on here think that is is OK to call ANY BLACK WOMAN a 'ho - implying that because some black rappers use the word, there is no social category, no refinement, no income level, no educational attainment, that can prevent a black woman from being publicly held up to ridicule as a 'ho.

So when they are ready to hear about Bush's 'ho wife Laura, then it is permissible to allow the rest.

There is NO "Black America."

An apology can only be made FROM the offender TO the individuals offended.

So the ONLY people who can accept or reject Imus's apology are Rutgers basketball team.
