His label was communist, although I think extreme fascist would be a better description.
The Vietnamese and the Cambodians had border conflicts. Most of the world was delighted when Viet Nam invaded and overturned Pol Pot's genocidal regime. The guy seems to have been a madman.

You do mean Pol Pot. He was a communist. Vietnam was trying to stop the Khmer Rouge and the genocide of the Vietnamese in Cambodia.

Pol Pot, original name SALOTH SAR Khmer political leader whose totalitarian regime (1975-79) imposed severe hardships on the people of Cambodia. His radical communist government forced the mass evacuations of cities, killed or displaced millions of people, and left a legacy of brutality and impoverishment.

Relations with Vitnam rapidly deteriorated when Pol Pot refused Hanoi's offer of a close relationship among the three countries of the Indochinese Peninsula. Savage border fighting culminated in a Vietnamese invasion of Cambodia in December 1978. The Khmer Rouge were dislodged from power, and a pro-Vietnamese government was installed in Phnom Penh.
