It's not the sign, again, it's the placements. Any aspect to mercury has to do with the mind. Intelligence has to do with the mind, I've been told... So I assume Mercury has to do with intelligence. Gemini is said to be an intelligent sign, because it's ruled by mercury - and Virgo is generally an intelligent sign as well. Not all Virgo's and not all Gemini's are intelligent, though, as we all know. Because it's all about the placements of mercury... and if you wish, of Mercury's "higher octave", Uranus.

Uranus is the ruler of Aquarius, and it represents higher thinking, and therefore in a way, higher intelligence. Now in a chart, uranus on it's own means feck-all, absolutely nothing. In a major aspect with a personal planet it has more meaning, and in a very major aspect with Mercury, it means you're a genius basically! ... or at least that you've a big head on your shoulders, too heavy to bare :p


Ok so to cap this up; the most intelligent signs would be Gemini, Virgo and Aquarius traditionally, Aquarius being the most intelligent one. For planets this would be Mercury and Uranus that decide whether you're intelligent or not. Doesn't matter which sign they are in.

VIRGO (mine!!), of course. We tend to be perfectionists, and usually do well in adminstrative fields and business, and tend to appear pretty book-smart to most.

Seriously, though, if we are talking book-smart, I would have to say Gemini, Aries, Leos and some Sagittarians, because they typically love to learn and are usually some of the most well-read people on every subject, ESPECIALLY Geminis. If we are talking people-smarts, I would say Aquarians or Libras, or worldly-smarts, I would have to say Cancers, Capricorns or Scorpios. Aquarians and Libras are very people-friendly, and Cancers and Scorpios just want to know how everything works so they tend to be pretty worldly-smart on a variety of things. Capricorns also just appear really smart; they never look dumb but they're not what I would describe as book-smart.

My mother-in-law is a Cancer, and she has in the course of her life done everything from cake decorating to sewing to working as a beautician. And yet she will talk to you about a mechanical problem with her vehicle like she's worked as an auto mechanic, too. But she's not what you would describe as book-smart either. So I guess it depends on what your definition of "intelligence" is, really (I'm actually too smart for this question--LOL!). Good luck to you!
