I am a conservative and I think violent criminals, felons, and wife-beaters should be in prison. Not on the street. Certainly not carrying weapons.
Let them shoot each other in prison. "Help control the prison population. Have your prisoner spayed or neutered. Or at least give them a gun in prison and lock the doors behind you."

I thouht that a convicted felon was not allowed to have a handgun, or to possess fire arms.
I think the problem is not about gun ownership, I think it is more about the fact that they are so easily attainable. In the state where I live, I can get a permit to purchase one firearm form one shop in a 30 day period, but, I can carry same permit to a gun show and buy 5 at one time with a nominal fee per gun. I know people who do this then sell the guns on the street with filed numbers for a profit.
Maybe we should just make ammo cost 5000 dollars per bullet - maybe that would cut down on the problem.

No, they shouldn't. When a person violates the rights of another by committing a violent crime, they deserve to have THEIR rights taken away.
Allowing a violent criminal to have access to a gun in akin to permitting a convicted sex offender to work at a day care. Giving opportunity and access to someone who has shown a propensity for poor judgment in the past is ridiculous.
I have guns - with trigger locks locked in a wall safe. My son knows what they are but not where they are, and he will never have access to them. He has been to the range with me and knows the damage they can cause. He, unlike a lot of kids (and adults) today has been taught to respect things and people.
And yes, I think it should apply to ALL felons - wife beaters, repeat offenders DUI, arson, hit-and-run, robbery, etc. If a person shows a total lack of respect for the law by committing a felony, imagine what they could do with a gun in their hands...

A) Neocon is an outdated term that does not describe conservatives today. Look it up...
B) No conservative I know, and I don't agree that felons, criminals and wife beaters (convicted?) should own guns.
C) The existing laws actually prohibit these people from owning guns.
C) Any of the classes of people you cite can readily obtain guns on the black market. This has nothing to do with law abiding citizens who purchace and own guns legally.
Your question is very slanted and implies that since criminals can gain access to guns that law abiding citizens should have no access to guns.
The logic does not pass the test of critical thinking and therefore is not logical

Other nations with stricker gun control laws concerning hand guns do not see the statisitcs like we do here in the USA with shootings. If nothing else, it decreases accidental shooting involving children of children, due to negligence of those "responsible" adults that legally own the guns and permits.
And btw: the number one cause of death for pregnant women in the USA is murder ... usually by the father of the child or an acting agent ... some with, yes, guns they own legally. I can't believe one poster stated wife beater's don't shoot their wives. I actually witnessed a murder in a grocery store parking lot in the suburbs of just that!

Of course not. And any private citizen who owns a gun should be required a permit, a mandatory class on gun safety, a locked cabinet to store their gun. Too many injuries and deaths occur to children when the honest citizen owns a gun.
My question is besides hunting, why do Americans want to carry guns? What are they afraid of?

Felons? Not too specific. In some states, giving somebody a tattoo when you're unlicensed to do so is a felony. Should he be denied his right to own a gun? Of course not.
Wife beaters? Meh, they rarely shoot their wives. They beat them.
Violent criminals... hm, well I guess it'd depend on the criminal in question. Maybe some neocons would prefer that it be handled on a case by case basis??

If you look at statistics in states that have carry conceal you will see that crime rates drop. Why because you give the honest everyday Joe his given constitutional right to protect himself. Criminals dont know now if you will fight back if they will get shot?? You keep them guessing!!! Criminals will always have and get guns however now what is happening in my state (Wisconsin) the government is taking those guns out of the hands of law biding citizens. Crime Violent crime is nuts Milwaukee is a very dangerous place to be. I say legalize Carry Conceal its a good thing!!! NRA Baby!!!

CRIMINALS should not own guns and the law states that they can't. BUT - isn't it ironic that these are the type of people who mostly DO own guns!
My Dad was a cop and we grew up around guns (and going with him to shooting ranges was a monthly thing) and it never occurred to us to misuse the guns around the house or take them out when my Dad wasn't home. NEVER happened.
Responsible people should not be punished for what criminals do with guns - the CRIMINALS should be!

I am not aware of anyone (save a few violent criminals) that believe violent criminals (wife beaters included) should be allowed to own firearms.
What? One person who calls himself a Neocon? Painting with a rather broad brush one should think.
You wouldn't be trying to mislead people would you? Naw, liberals would never do that!
**Word to the casual reader: if one has truth on one's side there is no need to resort to subterfuge.
