My granddaughter and I got two baby ducks for Easter this year....Bucky and Lola.
Yes, I have raised many a duck in my day so I know what I am doing and yes, we live way out in the country so I have plenty of room for them.
Right now (because of all the snow) they are in the basement in a playpen with straw, water, feed and a light to keep them warm. I also live in the basement but in another part.....they are actually calling to me right now. They will be going outside as soon as the weather warms up.....

Back in the 70s, my brother and I got two baby ducks one year. We (with A LOT of help from my mom) raised them until they turned white. Then we took them to the local park and turned them loose. We would go to the park to see them. They were there for years and flourished. :)

I would not do this now because there are too many animals in the world who don't have happy endings. Pets should never be given as gifts at holidays.

But it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I'll never forget. :)

In 2nd grade we had an incubater and 20 eggs, and every day eagerly waited for them to hatch. When they did, we got one each and had a makeshift pen with tables as the fence (on their sides.) One day, one of the kids knocked a table over accidently and squashed half of them. The teacher had a list of whose were deceased (they had different coloured texta on their heads) and she read out our names one by one if ours died. Such a tragic easter moment when you are 7 years old. Mine was a surviver, and happily lived another few years.

My daddy got us a box of baby chicks for Easter one year. We raised them. Then he killed them and put them in the freezer. We were happy because we loved it when Mom cooked chicken.

yes, at a Sunday School Easter egg hunt at our church.
I found "the golden egg" lol that gave me a cute little hot pink chicky.I was only 3 and wanted to name him Pecker but my dad said no....hmmm still can't figure out why.lmao
I ended up naming him Clever. After all of his pink feathers fell off and he was turning into a rooster......Clever had to move to my Uncle Bobby's chicken coop.I visited him on weekends and he was top c-o-c-k...until he started chasing me and my cousin around when we walked by the coop......too defensive of his ladies i guess.SO, poor clever had to go "visit that chicken coop in the sky"...I believe my Aunt and Uncle had him for dinner. When I was a kid, they just told me he ran away because he was so mean.lmao

I was about 6 and it was a baby duck. I was holding it on my lap and it squited on me. All white and yellow as i remember. I was not happy. I guess they took it back to where ever they got it. It had ruined my dress. I thought. Nasty beasty.
