8:00 and 4:00.... you get more rotation of the steering wheel before you have to let go. You have more control of the car that way.

with my hands at ...depending on the car, what is more comfortable ... 9 .00 and 3:00 or 10:00 and 2:00 one of our cars has a smaller wheel and a different angle so that is why there is a difference.

at 9 and 3,thumbs up and on the wheel,don't wrap your thumbs around the wheel,
this is the preferred way for cars without airbags.It's the position used by most professional racers.

when I took driver's ed, they told us the 10:00-2:00 positions. now that they are putting air bags in steering wheels, that's not safe. when the air bag deploys, it can break your arm or wrist. now I use the 8:00-4:00 positions.

9 & 3, almost always with 2 hands. My car doesn't have airbags, so there's no reason to compensate for that.
