Officially, he has chosen not to declare his nationality and ended up getting his first major movie role due to his 20 minute short "Multi-Facial" because caster that interviewed him for parts in the film could not figure out his nationality due to his look. Spielberg saw his performance at Cannes and cast him in the role of an Italian in "Saving Private Ryan", his first major motion picture.
He has played Italian, black, white, hispanic and even a 50+ NY Jewish mobster complete with a Bronx accent. He truly is "Multi-facial".
