Hands Down!!! My favorite Disney is "Song of the South"; this DVD-unreleased part live action/part animation is one of the most moving, enchanting and magical films in the Disney library. It's hard not to be jovially moved by the tales of Uncle Remus, the adventures of Brer Rabbit/Bear/Fox, and the poignant human lessons learned, in the telling of the tales (not to mention, the classic Disney song, "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Da"). Unfortunately, the reason for the lack of DVD release (it was last seen on the screen around the late '70's), is because of the wretched and particular time in American history, which the film depicts, has been deemed 'politically incorrect', and supposedly exploits certain racial tensions happening at the time. However, in my opinion, the enchantment of the film, and the poignant human lessons depicted in the telling of Uncle Remus' tales greatly overshadows (that's 'overshadows', not hides) the controversial aspects of the story; after all, there's no denying human history.....it happened, and fortunately, as an overall race, we have grown considerably since then. The good news is, apparently, the people over at the Buena Vista / Disney Studios have realized this, and at last report via www.videoeta.com, they are seriously considering a sooner-than-eventual release of the film. It is now available from various sources ('ebay', and the like) on low-grade DVD; I was fortunate to pick up both an original VHS and Laserdisc of the film over in Japan, years ago, during my Submarine Navy Tenure. Be on the look-out; you will not be disappointed!!!
