my daughter is 11 months she has finally started to get to where she wont.... Like if she finds something and I catch her with it I'll say " can I have that please" then she will give it to me and I'll tell her THANK YOU! and she grins... so since I started doing that she very rarely does put anything in her mouth.. If you finds something she will usually bring it to me or sit in the floor with it held in the air for me to come get it.

The age when babies stop putting everything in their mouths varies from baby to baby. Some begin walking and they are all about being on the go and may stop occasionally to get something to eat. Others are more intent on stopping to smell the roses and while they are at it, they'll try a taste, too. It is not likely he'll stop putting things in his mouth before he turns a year old though. Babies use all of their senses when learning about the world around them and he has quite a lot of learning to do! Picking up little things to put in his mouth is actually working on his fine motor skills and it will come in handy when he begins to self-feed himself. A word of caution about birthday parties, be careful if you plan to use balloons. The pieces of a popped balloon are a great choking risk for little ones.

I have 5 children from 18 down to 9 and I can tell you that you are not even close to the age that they stop. At 10 months old your child is still learning so much about his or her surroundings and they will probably continue to put things in their mouths for some time. Every child is different though. One of my kids put EVERYTHING in their mouth and another never did. Some are just more curious. Positive reinforcement is the best. When they put something in their mouth that they shouldn't take it out or stop them and let them know in a normal voice that it can hurt them. Good Luck with your little one they are so much fun.

It really depends on the kid. My oldest daughter was always putting stuff in her mouth and around 11 months i gave her a good pop on her mouth after she put a decorative rock in her mouth, it scared me so bad that i just popped her one and she never put stuff in her mouth again.
A baby i used to watch all the time, would ALWAYS put stuff in her mouth no matter what you did. she was 13 months and still doing it.
I think it just depends on the kid and how curious they are about things. Taste is one of our senses and is a way of discovering new things.

it totally depends on the child, my son is almost 2 and thank god he never really got into putting everything in his mouth but a friend of mines daughter is a little older and still does the same thing, its not a big deal, lots of kids go through this phase, they will outgrow it eventually.

You are going to have to wait quite awhile! My baby is 11 1/2 months and she still does it. I would say at about 2 they *might* stop.

You have a long way to go if he is like my son who is 2 1/2. My son still chews crayons, eats dogfood, likes to taste dirt and lick markers. He has put rocks in his mouth and money. I have to keep a close watch on him!

Most~~not all~~ toddlers still do this. I don't think it is uncommon to still be happening at age 2. Kids learn and explore using their senses, touch, taste, smell, hearing, and seeing! Unfortunately they don't learn that it is not ok to taste everything until they are a little more mature in their thought process.

I still catch my 4 year old son chewing on things - not all the time, but once in awhile.
Maybe when they're 5 - who knows.
