I agree...it shows a weakness of character.
I say this, although I smoked off and on throughout my 20's and until I was about 32 (helped me not eat) (and was so stupid---my friends and I would run about 3 or 4 miles, sit in a bar smoking and drinking, then run back....all in the name of health--ha!)
Smokers today really have to swim against a huge tide of public oppression (which I think is good) but I still don't think it should be legislated. People will quit when they're good and ready, but I don't have to hang around them til they do!
Obama was probably hoping to get a pass from Dave, because he used to smoke cigarettes,( then only cigars, and I think he cut that out right before his bypass)

I watched Letterman too and saw the interview. I thought Dave was funny mocking his smoking. lol
Thing is I do think Obama said he was committed to stopping smoking, but that he found it difficult at certain times.
So he's trying, it's not easy to quit a bad habit.
Having said that, I didn't think he came off that well in the interview. Just more politics as usual.

I smoke. Its because I am addicted and I actually enjoy it. I also drink and like to have a good time, does that make me weak minded?
I dont like Obama, but slamming him for smoking is a stretch.

Obama quit smoking several months ago, and he talked about it on 60 Minutes.
And even if he did smoke...that is his right to choose. This is supposed to be a free country.

It's definitely worse than marrying your cousin, having affairs with your students while you are married, or hiring a guy for an extremely responsible position who you know is connected to the Mafia, or a whole bunch of other things I can think of...

I don't see it as a weakness, the man probably just enjoys smoking. If he doesn't care if he gets lung cancer why should you? As long as people don't smoke around me, I don't care!!

I remember sitting at a stop light and looking over at someone in the car next to mine. My first thought were, "they are very nice looking", then they put a cigarette in their mouth and I instantly thought, "yuck". I not longer saw them as nice looking.
So, regardless of who it is my answer to your first question would have to be, yes.

How about drinking too much coffee, not exercising, too much Crisco for fried foods, or maybe long toe nails, ah, come on, let our politicians be people!
