oil temp guage starts in the middle. How can I tell if it runs hot or If i just need the guage set properly. If its just the guage how do I go about fixing that?

the guage has a sending unit on the engine. generally they are cheap and easy to change. if it doesn't bother you, just throw one on it. if the problem persists, it could be a thermostat, or a radiator cap, or bubbles flying around in the system, or low coolant.....lots of possible problems. need more symptoms.

First you have to establish that the sending unit is working properly. Measure the resistance using a VOM. If its just the guage that is not working properly its not a big deal. Bear in mind that with todays alloy engines they do not take well to overheating. In many cases if the engine actually overheats its easy to blow a head gasket, warp a head and create a host of other problems that you really do not want. With a vehical that age it would easily cost more to repair the results of overheating than the vehical is worth.

Oil pressure, or water temperature?
There is no oil temperature gage on that car.

you need a new thermostat in your engine
