Are car parking regulations only in effect when a sign is displayed?
I live in South West London, and there's a road nearby me where I want to park. There are no signs on it, and no lines on the side of the road at all.
Is there anything that would make it illegal to park there? People seem to be there with and without permits, but I would want to leave my car there all day. I don't want a fine!

If there are no signs, markings or lines then it is not illegal.

It depends on the bylaws of London. Not every street has to display parking signs, and are assumed by the city bylaws. There could be one sign at every entrance to the city itself. Usually, in the winter months there are city bylaws concerning snow removal.
