I was watching that programme Teen Transexual the other day and was just wondering.

Has anyone ever seen what I'm talking about (not the programme)?

Which kind - Male to Female (MtF), or Female to Male(FtM)?

If you're talking about the genital bits of a MtF, then you need to realize that most are so good the patient has to tell the Gynecologist they didn't have a hysterectomy.

If you mean the normal external appearance, then that varies. MtFs usually require surgery (adams apple shaving), hair removal from the face, voice lessons, breast enhancement, and a few other things. Still some don't pass as well as they'd like. The Hormone Therapy (HRT) does make their breasts grow some, softens the skin, adds fat in the places that make women curvier than men. They lose muscle mass, becoming weaker - especially in the upper body area. They tend to be tall for women, given men tend to be taller than women.

FtMs on the otherhand pass very well, and require little surgery, past the mastectomy to pass as male. They tend to look younger than their age until about a year or to of HRT. My ex-bf (FtM) was 30, but looked 13. HRT causes their beards to start growing, their skin to toughen, voice deepens, and muscles grow, especially the upper body area. They appear short for men.

A party I went to with a number of transmen and transwomen was striking. It seemed to be a group of very tall women and very short men. Other than that you didn't notice anything else unusual.

MtFs have a good state of the art with regards to changing the entire body and it being functional, but they have a harder time being taken for female.

FtMs have a very easy time being taken for male, but suffer that the surgery for below the waist are still in it's infancy. Phalloplasty - construction of a penis, is still crude and extremely expensive (~$100,000). They are lucky if they have something that is still very small and functions to urinate - basically they buy the ability to stand and pee. There is a very low probability they will feel sexual sensation in it. Most FtMs forgo phalloplasty because of these reasons. My ex-bf neither had the money nor wanted to do it now because of these things.

Typical cost for an MtF, total, is about $60,000 to $80,000, including everything. For FtM, it's about $115,000, including the mastectomy, hysterectomy, and phalloplasty.

I'm a trans girl. The Sexual Reassignment Surgery (SRS) for trans girls is done so well, even skilled doctors cannot tell if a person was born with a vagina or had it surgically created. The ONLY way to discover is to buy yourself a medical Speculum, insert it into a vagina, and look for a cervical opening. The cervix should be at the very end of the vagina and looks like a very tiny hole. Often times, the results of SRS can also be compared to a woman with a hysterectomy. My suggestion? Politely ask. If the individual finds you to be a genuine and trusting individual, they will tell you the truth. Also, if you have confusion on the subject, do some research on "The Harry Benjamin Syndrome", "Intersexuality", and "Transsexuality". You will find Transsexuality is a nuerological birth defect in which the GENDER of a person does not match their ANATOMICAL SEX. The GENDER of a person is permanent and hardwired in the brain. The ANATOMICAL SEX of a person can be created fully or ambigously, needing surgical corrections for those who are Transsexual or Intersex. Please do your research (this applies to everyone) so that you can be better educated and propose valid statements (compared to invalid statements which are assumptions based on ignorance). Thanks.

I don't know how to say this, but been there and no there is not much difference in the bits.
I was drunk in a club, high as a kite and along came this beautiful woman I tried my luck, (She was like a model and I was just an average guy) scored and we kissed touched with each other and I honestly thought that I was the luckiest guy in the club, until I found out she was a pre op transsexual........
I had no idea at all that she/he was not a woman (although my judgement was a little impaired). It was a lesson for me that I have learnt from too perfect usually is. So most are better in honesty why else would they get the job done if they weren't perfect?

Wow sometimes I wish I never came on here. You lot seem to ask so many questions about this. No you cant tell the difference at all. I am a post op transexual who as been in hospital many times and Doctors or Nurses cant tell the difference between me and a genetic woman. I have all the same things, can get aroused and climax just like a genetic woman, I can have sex with a man if I wished but I am lesbian. I am guessing the programme you watched was with a person called Lucy Parker? I never saw it but heard of it. I wish i thought of the media thing, but my GP told me i couldnt change at 16, and so here i am at 20, 4 years late.

It is possible if the surgeon was poor, but most are fine, except there are variations in the position of the vagina and what is there post-operatively. Generally speaking, even a doctor cannot tell the difference, and they do the same thing also with sex etc. Also, there has been some research in the tissues there that get affected by oestrogen and sort of mutate it into normal female tissues. Not sure how it works though, but basically, if you had a naked woman and a passable post-op ts standing next to each other, then the man would never know who to pick.

This is really an answer to some of the people who have given you answers.

I am not a transsexual but even when dressed as a guy most people think that i am female.
I don't have an adams apple but i do have a very sexy upper class female voice, so i am told.
Being born with genes that are 47XXY i am neither male nor female but as i have a little something extra between my leg so it was put on my birth certificate that i was male.

As things stand at the moment people classify me as a chick with a dick

You can get mannish women and girly men. A post op transexual (male to female) can be more femanine than a lot of women. As for the bits, womens bits vary greatly depending whether they've given birth, where they come from etc. So its hard to compare. Depending on the surgery and the hormone therapy you could easily be fooled depending on how drunk you were, how much light there was etc. The only way to tell is a unique glimmer in their eyes that 'normal' women don't have. Thats what I've gleaned from living in Thailand. I have it on good authority from my experienced friend.

if you look closely enough and you're actively scrutinising, it depends on the quality of the surgery.

they'll never look 100% identical until we are able to literally "create" real genitals and attach them.. whether through growing them from stem cells or w/e means, but i dont think sugery has advanced far enough yet for that.

personally i've not had any experience with it, but as with all cosmetic surgery, if it hasn't been done naturally, it'll very very rarely look "perfect".

everyones different though, you might see the flaws in a £5,000 operation, but what about multiple operations costing millions of £? you might not be able to tell the difference.

IF the operation is properly done then the skin of the penis is used to line the artificial vagina created by the surgeon. So the post op transsexual gets some sensations from intercourse. However only a real vagina can lubricate so the artificial one needs artificial lubrication and of course there is no clitoris so that cannot be stimulated like it can in a real woman. I understand that the artificial vagina must be used regularly to keep it open and flexible but that is only what I have been told

I saw the programme and have also seen similar programmes and to the naked eye, there is no difference in their genitals. Its just the lack of a womb thats the only difference. Scary.
