Got a 30ft(ish) connifer in the back garden, looking to get it chopped down, how much should it cost me, is it a stupid idea to have a go myself, i own a trusty chainsaw.

To get a tree service to take it down, remove the stump, and clear all the debris will probably be at least $500, maybe $1000, depending on where you live. Disposal is the big issue. If you have a use for the wood and stuff, take it down yourself. I've taken down several, it's no big deal. If you're going to have to pay to get rid of the debris, I'd probably just go ahead and call a tree service to do it.

I leave the stump in as a decoration and usually put a flower bed around the place, but you can usually get someone to take the stump out for less, a couple of hundred bucks at most.

throw a rope in it notch and fell it .if you can burn the brush stack it on the stump and burn it .you might not be able to burn all of the stump, but if you can get it down below ground level, mound soil up on top.it will rot out.be safe with a chainsaw, trusty or not.
