This seems to be a contradiction in terms given the Biblical evidence against homosexuality. It seems that a homosexual individual must disregard much of the Old Testament and a smaller percentage but still significant portion of the New Testament. Since the Bible is the statement of faith for Christians, how can a homosexual profess belief in this religion and yet disregard some of the tenants of the central document of the faith? This act seems like Religion as a fashion or buffet to me, but I'm interested to see what the homosexual community thinks.

I want to preface this question with 2 things-
(1) I am not trying to be offensive to the homosexual community.
(2) All the laws of the Old Testament were overcome by the New Testament, so the absurd regulations of the Old Testament are not followed anymore becuase they don't have to be.

The New Testament frequently condemns sexual immorality, which homosexuality is a part of. Remember Jesus said he did not come to abolish God's laws, meaning what was once bad is not now clean, unless of course it was expressly stated, like food was declared clean by Christ in very clear commandments, and he destroyed some of the traditonary laws, like the priests said you could not do so many things on the Sabbath but Christ said it was lawful to do good things on the Sabbath. Also the punishments imposed by the Old Testament law are canceled out because we are judged according to the sacrifice of Christ. If we go through Christ we are cleansed, but if we do not go through Christ we have not atoned for sin, and risk damnation for abiding to our sins. Thus the morality against one man having physical relations with another man is still intact, but the punishment of death we are not to carry out. Their condemnation is in the hands of God, but they still have time to repent.

Paul wrote "Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law" (Rom 3:31). God does not say homosexuality is an abomination and then say it is okay. Remember when the adulterous woman was brought before Christ, he did not say, "Neither will I condemn you, so continue as you were". No he says, "Go and sin no more"

Part of receiving Grace means to utterly give up our sinful ways. Part of redemption is to leave our wicked desires. Salvation does not give us permission to indulge in sin..

"Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God" 1st Peter 2:16

"For certain men whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are godless men, who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord." Jude 1:4

Christianity is the believe in God and in the son, Jesus. As there are many religions and what the believe of the Bible states such as Catholics, Baptists, etc...does not mean that the homosexual community could not believe in God or a higher power.

How can the Christian community further do the same thing that you are stating in your question. The bible states that you should not pollute your body, yet there are many "Christians" that as soon as the church service is done you can see them standing outside lighting up cigarettes. Is that not a pollutant to your body? The references to homosexuality that is brought up by the "Christian" community is based out of the Old Testament. If all things in the New Testament were followed, then Christians wouldn't have a leg to stand on just as well.

I believe there is a higher power, does not mean that I am right or that I am wrong, but the fact that my faith states that there is someone higher than myself, then that is my beliefs and my religion. If the Bible is to be debated that everything written in there is the word of God, and then why is it change its verses throughout it so oftenly, and why were books of the Bible deemed not fit to be in the Bible....were they not also the words of God?

I am a homosexual and I consider myself a good Christian who believes in a loving God. I cannot take as truth much of what is stated in the bible because these statements are merely the thoughts of the writers at the time. Otherwise you must also believe in slavery, human and animal sacrifices, an inhuman death sentence for petty theft, ones ability to turn into a statue of salt, etc etc. You cannot pick and choose from the bible what agrees with your ideology in life and assume that makes you a good Christian.
I think a better question would be, how can you be a Christian and a homophobic bigot at the same time. It seems to be a contradiction in terms given the Biblical evidence about loving and respecting your fellow man.

Well I am one, as is my boyfriend, we do exist!

I think a more pertinent questions would be why shouldn't there be homosexual christians? God created everyone, including the gays and the christians, why wouldn't they overlap in the great Venn diagram of life?

You talk about disregarding portions of the Bible, I don't think that's a particularly good argument as Christians in general do disregard a fair bit of the Bible. For example do you like sausages at Barbeques? How about a prawn/shrimp cocktail when out a restaurant? Did you wear socks today? Do you let your hairdresser cut your fringe/bangs? All of these things are strictly forbidden by the Bible. By Leviticus, where the two most often quoted anti-gay verses come from.

The Bible contains 5 admonishments for gay people and well over 300 for straight people. It's not that God hates the straights, He just thinks they need more help.

Well as you say the old testament isn't as closely followed. The new testament is vague as all hell as far as homosexuality is concerned.

Plus the divorced people can still be Christian, it doesn't stop them, it shouldn't stop homosexuals. The church frowns on it, but it still allows gay people in the fold. As I recall they barely mention homosexuality now because they can lose people if they shoot it down.

You could argue that if homosexuality was a choice, then making the wrong one would go against religion. However we have no say in it, we are made this way. We have to accept it.

Many of us grew up with Christianity, to abandon that because you come out as gay seems itself like "religion as a buffet" or lack of it anyhow.

One should be true to himself, to his faith, and his sexuality. The 2 aren't mutually exclusive.

The contradiction lies in calling items from the bible "evidence," which is an oxymoron. The bible represents a belief system, and not scientific evidence in any way.

If you really believe in the New Testament (as you should), why not follow Jesus' teachings to love one another, and treat others as you would like to be treated? This would include encouraging LGBT people into your faith community and circle of friends.
People who refuse to do this are just hypocritical, that's all, not necessarily hate-filled and spiteful. Maybe.

Although I understand your question, you need to understand that at the end of the day, the Bible is basically a book of hearsay, nothing more. I make this distinction only because too often the book is declared as absolute truth, which it is not, it is at best a book of stories with a moral to them.

That said, as another has pointed out, Christians are followers of Christ and are supposed to be Christ like in their treatment of themselves and others.

Consider: Jesus of Nazareth never spoke once on the subject of homosexuality, neither did He quote old scripture to make reference to it.

Consider: The old testament is what most Christians use to condemn homosexuality, which is anethema to what Christ taught.

Consider: With the exception of the writtings of Paul, a man who by his own admission had issues with any sexuality, there are no admonitions to homosexuality in the new testament. Further, proper scholarly study shows that Paul spoke of men prostituting themselves which is not the same as being homosexual.

In the end, being Christian has nothing to do with one's sexuality, that's merely a cop-out by the bigots within Holy Mother Church. The truth is, so long as you walk with Christ, you are as Christ and thus a Christian. To those who use scripture to declare otherwise need to be reminded of one of Christ's admonitions; "Do not point to the splinter in another mans eye before first removing the beam from your own."

Many Christians who consider themselves "pure" Christians, feel free to spread hatred and accusations, even though they are not supposed to judge. Isnt this a buffet also? I am not implying that you are doing this at the moment, you just ask, but if you sit down and take a look around it always happens that all these kind of questions are forwarded to homosexuals ONLY and no one bothers to "tackle" all the rest of Christians who dont follow the bible properly either, and just get away with it cos they are heteros. I rarely see a Christian telling other Christians to stop judging and start loving...But when it comes to judgment..tons of it...tons

I am a homosexual christian. In the King James version of the Bible, nothing is said about homosexuals. I don't read or follow the later translations, because the meanings are changed to suit whoever wrote it at the time. I've researched this extensively.

Of coarse any person who believes on Jesus Christ is a Christian. Not simply involving homosexuals, however even any carrying on with sin, this sort of sinner no longer searching for deliverance isn't a "status" Christian. They aren't carrying on with as a disciple. They will have to be marked and have shyed away from, for the reason that they're living in idolatry. Judging any individual is having a "last judgement" towards any individual, no longer calling whatever for what it's and performing consequently.Following the scriptures correctly is a dynamic subject to what ever specified given difficulty in element. Its a many books of knowledge to comply with as an entirety. Homosexuality can also be one of the crucial complex topics to be fine proficient of what to do in instances, for the reason that of the character of homosexuality. It no longer worse than some other sin, however its of a nature that represents the character of sin in its entirety. In different phrases, for a man or woman to be introduced of it may contain an overly extensive variety, the widest variety of disorders even feasible to a individual. Be well closer to all guys(folks). That does not imply you must repair the whole lot, whilst you do not even your self but know the way, or whilst any individual does not even wish it constant. There's little rationale to hang around with folks in case your existence isn't reaping benefits them or them yours.. Its to not reject or hate, extra so that you could direct your existence to achieve essentially the most well, you will have to simply keep away from them except you know the way to get them introduced particularly in element that man or woman, and so they wish to be introduced. However, if by way of threat come across, be well to them.. If it by hook or by crook can advantage them unto deliverance, first-class, if no longer, there are 7 billion folks on the earth that may use help in existence. Very few of them are homosexual. I did not say "reduce them off". that is no longer what I mentioned in any respect. I mentioned "mark and prevent" the Bible teaches it. You provide folks the gap to develop oftentimes with out it hurting any person. Sometimes that's very imperative. Sometimes it may be even unsafe considering the fact that no longer homosexuality, however even any sin, mainly related to carrying on with or powerful disobedience and idolatry if you do not positioned a trustworthy distance among you and a men and women sin..
