Also, I forgot to mention, I work on a new barely 3 months old Apple Mac Laptop. What are some free resources to begin programming SQL?

If you are looking for work and they will pay for you to learn, mindleaders.com is an excellent site. You get it for a year and learn a lot. If you are just looking for free, I would just search on yahoo "SQL tutorial" and try the sites that pop up. I use the search for a lot of things with SQL.

MS Access is easy as it has a graphic designer and a means to view the resulting SQL.... The down side is that Access is not installed on all PC's and is not cheap to buy.

You can use the msSQL server express edition which is FREE. It is a little less friendly to use at first compared to Access. It has graphich query designer and immeadiate feedback of generated SQL code. (SQL may be typed in either product to create a query rather than graphical design)

Check to see if you have Microsoft Access installed already as part of Office, or download MySQL from http://www.mysql.com/ (don't let other people tell you these aren't "good enough"; they're excellent for learning). Then check out http://w3schools.com/sql/default.asp for the quick tutorial.
