I know I am gonna get blasts from both side sbut if you just cruise yahoo you will see crap being thrown by both sides, sometimes started by one and sometimes by the other.
Shouldn't we get rid of both sides and try to actually do something productive to resolve our issues?

Well Ruth yes we have always had 2 sides but those sides have not always been, they changed and evolved and it was a huge debate by the founders if parties should be allowed at all because of the division it creates.
It was never the 2 sides that made us great...it was to the 2 sides with different views all pulling in the same direction toward the same goal...as you can see just from these answers NO ONE believes the parties are out for the country anymore..which makes them invalid in my opinion.

I wish :moderate Republicans and "moderate" Democrats would unite and form a third party. This right and left crap stinks. The far left controls the Democrats and the far right controls the Republicans. A viable third party would represent 80% of Americans. Only 20% of Americans consider themselves far right or far left.
Far right vs. far left and all you get is a mudfest while our brave soldiers get stuck in the sand.

I'm with you on this one all the way. To work together and not constantly call each other names is a sign of maturity. Sadly both sides have wrongly convinced themselves the other side is stupid/evil/totally wrong on every topic and has nothing of value to offer in any subject.
In a day where political correctness has become so abundant what surprises me is how stereotyping has grown at the same rate.
So to all those who have used terms like Dumbocrats and Repugnacans, I'll say shut up till you grow up. We've got some major issues in this country. And if you aren't working on a viable solution YOU are part of the problem.

I am a conservative and I did actually see ONE post with a view on the war that was sensible. I didn't agree with it, but it is the only sensible alternative to how the war is actually being fought that I have heard from anyone on YA or any politician. Other than that, it is all about party agenda.
If a Democrat president were to take that person view and go with it, I would support him/her because I respect the office. I will not support any plan that puts my kids and their future in danger. My kids will not live in a Socialist country.

Both sides have competing interests of what's the best way to resolve our issues. If you have ever tried to watch Parliament you will realise that it's incredibly boring..... so the name calling acts as light comical relief. My favourite example of this is as follows. Introducing Peter Costello to the world ...of the Liberal party and current Australian Treasurer (for you Amercians out there, the Liberals are like the Republicans, and Labor is more closely linked to the Democrats.)

Because no one really has any original ideas.Originality has left America. When was the last time we had a major technology idea? Those of us who are older are so lucky to have seen technology boom.Heck I can remember our first colored TV.What have the youth of today experienced? The Internet.Unless people lived through times when Americans were kept in the dark about government etc. They can't truly appreciate how wonderful it is to have a true debate without debasement.

I agree 100%. Unfortunately there are too many people who see this board as a goof and aren't interested in serious conversation. If you try to make it into something more productive you're accused of not having a sense of humor. I would like it if there were two categories; one for serious discussion and one for political humor. I don't know how long people would respect the difference but it's worth a try.

Because politicans are like all creatures, its primary objective is to survive. And the best way that they know how to survive is by saying what their constituency (i.e. hardcore liberals or conservatives) want to heard. That's how a lot of Congressmen and Congresswomen get re-elected.
Politicans attack each other because they know that atacking the other side will help them politically. They're doing it because we reward their behavior.

If you talking about both sides of government, we'll be death by now. Just imagine the humongous stupidity and corruption from both parties put together.
