We want to pull a pop up camper behind our CRV. We looked on both websites and the US engine is actually larger but it says it can only tow 1500 lbs while the UK model can tow more than 2000 lbs.

The problem is not with how much the CRV can pull but in stopping the vehicle. The difference in the specs on the 'recommended' towing capacity is the distributor's comfort level with regard to product liability. American Honda, the US distributor is a very conservative company and they usually understate their 'real' towing capacities. Honda UK may have different competitors or their competitors may have higher towing capacities that cause the UK distributor to be less conservative in their published capacity. Both vehicles use the same braking systems.
Hope that helps

Does it have a diesel in the UK? Diesel's can pull more, in North America it's a 2.4L gas, with about 166hp and same torque.
