Did you think you didn't need to file income taxes in one or both of those states just because you don't presently reside there?
Wrong.

My husband used to work in one state but lived in another. We would have to file in the state he worked in to recoup the taxes that were taken out of his pay erroneously by his employer. He refused to take out tax for the correct state. Then we would have to file in our state to pay the tax. The federal usually poses no problem. The length of time you spent living out of state will make it a little more complex.

The probability is that you will have to file both state taxes. Check with your CPA or tax preparer.

File in both states. Because you earned less than a full year's wages in each place, you get more of your money back. It's definately in your best interst to do both, but it does mean more paperwork for sure.
