It's not so certain that Iran will have a nuclear weapon soon. The experience with Iraq should teach us that the status of a nation's nuclear program is something that needs to be verified and monitored.

Iran will use them for the same purposes that China, Pakistan, India and Israel use theirs for.

Iran may have several motives for developing nuclear weapons.

1.) Defense - The Qur'an has elaborate rules of engagement for warfare. An Islamic country under sharia law has rights to defend itself but not start offensive wars. Iran probably intends to re-establish a caliphate (Attaturk abolished it). If Iran had nuclear weapons, no country would oppose it.

2.) Offense? - Admadi-Nejad has made a statement about wiping Israel off the map and denial of the veracity of the holocaust. Iran's Shahab-3 ballistic missiles are capable of carrying a nuclear warhead and can be detonated by a remote-control device while still in high-altitude flight as electromagnetic pulse weapons - even one of which could knock out Israel, the US or Europe's critical electrical and technological infrastructure, effectively sending the continental U.S. back to the 19th century with a recovery time of months or years. Iran will have that capability – at least theoretically – as soon as it has one nuclear bomb ready to arm such a missile

3.) Respect - Pakistan's Abdul Qadeer Khan gave the "secret" technology to Iran so that Muslim nations would not be subservient to Western nations. When a country masters nuclear technology the diplomacy with that country will necessarily change.

Ya heard it here first.
Now we have an undeclared war and a cold war at the same time.
If Iran creates a useable nuclear weapon (still some time off, folks) or two or even three, how does that compare to the stockpile the US has?
Then there's long range ballistics problems to iron out...thant's if they want to because this is a
"Ive got a gun, too" move.
Then if there looks like there's going to be a dust up, no one knows which countries will be on what sides for their own political purposes.
Although Iran says I wants to wipe Israel off the map, it doesn't want to destroy the Palastinians or the Lebanese or even itself with the fallout.
We'ere in a tough time everywhere and sabre rattling on all sides. Do people actually believe a Third World War would be fought on battlefields with rules of engagement? And do we honestly think that anything will be solved with more war?

Good question you must bare in mind that Iran may not have nuclear weapons soon and if they do it will not be in great amount. If they do what would they do with them very little properly because if they ever-ed fired one then they would have to take on the retaliation from the rest of the world. The up side for Iran is that the USA will never invade their country because of the threat.

. Remember the Clerics run the country not the president. If they decide to create the ultimate holy war they will. They do not think or believe like most Europeans or Americans. Eventually they will give one to Hezbollah if there is no other option for its use on Israel. They see nukes as a way to keep America from helping Israel, leaving them free to keep their word on their stated intention of annihilating the Jewish nation. Those that think they are not insane enough to use it need only look at their willingness to use, train, and honor suicide bombers.

NOTHING that is good for the US.

At the very least, they will use them to threaten.

Or they could pass them off to terrorists, or use them themselves.

Unfortunately, they do NOT need missiles to get them to the US. A small nuke on a boat in New York Harbor could do unimaginable, and unprecedented, damage.

I hope we stop them!

The president of Iran is not stupid. He's not going to nuke anybody, the reprecussions would be to great. They're gonna bait the US into a war, knowing we wont use our nukes. Now they the excuse of protection on their side.

Threaten Israel and the more moderate Arab nations in the region. They will also be able to keep conventional forces away as well as Navy vessels. They would be invulnerable to conventional attack. They most likely will aid terrorist groups in aquiring and using such weapons to attack Europe and America.

Judging by the rhetoric I've herad out of Teheran, I believe that they'd try to use one against Israel, and maybe even smuggle one into the US. Nothing good will ever come of this.
