Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!

1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.

2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.

The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.

After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net

Ohhh..and Good Luck!

The best natural remedy is walking in fresh air during the day;one thing that worked for me was walking as much I could during the day, doing as much physical activity that makes me so tired I drop off at the end of the day!
Also, Calcium is a potent sleep inducer - which is why drinking a glass of warmed milk at bedtime can also help. If you plan to take supplements, ask for calcium citrate or calcium hydroxyapatite which are the forms the body can most easily absorb.(this brand is good by Vega: http://www.nutricentre.com/pages/search.aspx?search-catalog=Products&search-phrase=calcium+citrate&where-property=supplier&where-value=vega
Depending on wether your ur insomnia is caused by stress or sth else, I quite liked this remedy(please scroll down to Stabilium)http://www.whatreallyworks.co.uk/start/newproductszone.asp?article_ID=1699
This is an excellent site for advice on natural remedies, please type in any relevant word(s) in search (eg insomnia)& look thru' results. The results are in different sections dpeneding on interest, but i like the Articles, Factsheet & esp the Q&A at the end.
PS>It's good to keep for reference for any ailments or health issues.
Hope this helps!

A nice hot bath with lavender oil/bath bubbles. A cup of warm milk or chammomile tea, a relaxation CD if you have one (there's one by Dr. Hilary which I use that is good) ...but otherwise...just read for a little while and drift away :)
DON'T drink coffee or tea and DON'T smoke. All of these will keep you awake...and... DON'T wach TV in bed...it may keep you awake.
Excercise in the day helps with sleep or yoga before bed http://exercise.about.com/library/blmorningyoga.htm ...and going to bed and geting up at the same time every day helps your body get into a routine.
Sweet dreams :)

Self-help: Insomnia is one ailment that can be very successfully tackled by self-help methods. Try whichever of the following measures seem most appropriate.

Stop working an hour before bedtime and read something light.

Take more exercise, preferably earlier in the day.

Avoid meals late at night and eat at the same times each day to establish body rhythms.

As a bedtime drink, try a herbal infusion (chamomile, valerian, passionflower, skullcap) or a hot milky drink which contains tryptophan (thought to help sleep); but avoid Cocoa, tea, and coffee, and over-the-counter sleep remedies.

Take a warm bath.

Sexual release has a tension-reducing effect.

Learn some form of relaxation or meditation.

Don't lie tossing and turning if you cannot get to sleep; switch the light on and read, or do the ironing, then go back to sleep; resist tea, coffee, and other stimulants .

if you are overtired when you go to bed, take an afternoon nap (no longer than 15 minutes) to try and break the cycle.

Get your partner to give you a massage.

Wake up at the same time each day.

Remove the clock from your bedroom.

Make sure the room is not too hot or too cold (15-19°C [60 65°F] is about right) and minimize noise and light.

Increase your intake of Vitamin C, Bl, biotin, folate, and zinc, and if you are taking supplements of Vitamin A reduce your intake. Also check for excess lead and copper in your diet or environment.
